Four Chaos Legion F2P teams for Bronze players

avatar

The new Splinterlands extension deeply changed the meta: newly added cards and beta edition removal created opportunities to try new setups. I've tried and summmarised in this article the most efficient four teams I've found for Bronze, F2P players. You'll find below the minimal requirements, some strategic guidelines and fights examples.

1. Earth Magic

Core team: Obsidian + Mycelic Slipspawn + Goblin Psychic (19 mana)

It's by far the most dangerous setup at Bronze level: the slipspawn takes every incoming damages and is healed by the Psychic. If you have enough room, adding a Mustang Unicorn first improves the setup efficiency tremendously, especially during mirror fights.

The main downside of this setup is its somehow high mana cost and its sensitivity to rulesets. It is otherwise really hard to counter with the starter cards alone: your best free counters are the Fire Elemental and its blast, the Portal Spinner and a bit of luck.

Spamming this team is oddly satisfying.

2. Meatshield and his winged friend

Core team: Shieldbearer + Pelacor Arbalest (17 mana with Kala, 18 with Sloan)

A cheaper yet infuriating team to face. The Pelacor Arbalest has the highest damage output among the starter cards (2x2 without any modifier, but 2x3 with Sloan) and the Shieldbearer is a proven wall. This setup can be improved with a Scavo Hireling or any ranged monster but Earth Magic is overall better if available. If you have a hard time against the Pelacor Arbalest, its natural counter is again the Portal Spinner or a Fire Elemental.

3. The Happy Tree Friends

Core team: Wizard Of Eastwood + Venari Knifer + Goblin Thief (13 mana)

My goto setup for low mana fights. If you don't have the budget to get a Mylord, that 13 mana team can deal a lot of damages really fast. The Wizard breaks most armors, leaving the Knifer and Thief free to roam. If your opponent uses a lot Kelya or Tarsa, it's probably the best counter. Don't expect the team to perform well on higher mana cap fights, but it's reliable enough to grind fights at 13 or 12 (the Goblin can be swapped for a Xenith Archer or Khmer Princess).

4. The Fire Force

Core team: Antoid Platoon + Scavo Hireling + Tenyii Striker (15 mana with Pyre, 16 with Tarsa)
Another cheap and straightforward melee team: the Antoid is hard to kill and the Scavo Hireling will repair him. The Tenyii striker has one of the best body and is perfect to anchor your last spot, especially with a speed or health buff. I tend to find this team more reliable than the two previous one during most fights with endurance modifier (equalizer, armored up, holy protection, etc) and low mana cap because it relies less on thorns damages and has an overall better damage distribution.
