What is Death Losing in Chaos Legion?

death_splinter.jpg

While we have no idea what the new cards will look like in Chaos Legion, there is always time for theory crafting and planning for the upcoming pack release. With the new expansion comes a new league with new rules. Soon, many of our favorite cards will be cast aside and only playable in one of the two new formats.

Previously, I discussed my plans for which splinters I will be focusing on once the new cards are out. Since I already have a good number of Death cards, I am hoping to focus on Death Splinter.

Today, we'll talk about what the Death Splinter will be losing once Chaos Legion packs are open and new cards are released into the Splinterverse.

Any opinion I make about the cards is based on my experience in silver and bronze. Some of these cards might be amazing in gold or higher, but I don't have experience at those levels. Consider this a guide for silver and bronze players.

What are we losing once Chaos Legion is live?

OK, we're not actually losing anything. All cards will still be viable in one of two different leagues, Modern and Wild. Being a relatively new player, I don't have any alpha, beta, or older cards so I've decided to stick it out in the Modern League.

You can only use cards from the Untamed Edition, Azmare Dice, and Chaos Legion Editions in the Modern League. So no Alpha or Beta cards will be allowed. This also means the "starter" cards will be changing as well.

Now that we understand what editions are playable, how does this affect the Death Splinter?

Death Splinter Common Card Losses

Death will no longer have access to Spineback Wolf, Animated Corpse, Skeleton Assassin, and Haunted Spider once Modern League goes live.

Skeleton Assassin is a huge loss for me here and the new reward cards don't offer up a replacement for this card yet. Hopefully, Death gets a fast sneak attacker once Chaos is available.

The other 3 cards are no big deal to me and I rarely play them.

Death Splinter Rare Card Losses

Death is taking a huge hit here when these cards are removed from Modern League. You are losing Undead Archer, Twisted Jester, Undead Priest, Haunted Spirit, and the summoner Zintar Mortalus.

I play all these cards except Undead Archer whenever I play my Death Deck. Haunted Spirit leaving opens a huge empty spot for a viable low-mana tank on death. Zintar is also a great summoner that is hopefully replaced with something even better.

Death Splinter Epic Card Losses

Once Chaos is live you will no longer be able to play Dark Enchantress, Screaming Banshee, or the summoner Jarlax the Undead. Other than Dark Enchantress, I've never had room in my teams for these epics. No big loss here.

Death Splinter Legendary Card Losses

Death is about to lose Corrupted Pegasus, Lord of Darkness, and the summer Crypt Mancer. For me, all 3 of these cards are overkill in Silver leagues. I would much rather rent Mimosa Nightshade as a summoner over Crypt Mancer. The other two are really good at higher levels but for the rental price, I can find 10 other cards that will work for much cheaper.

What do we know so far about Chaos Legion Cards for Death?

3 Reward cards have already been released for Death Splinter. How do they stack up against the cards we're losing?

Pelacor Deceiver

Pelacor Deceiver (COMMON) is a 5 mana melee tank card with flying. I guess she is supposed to be the new low mana tank for Death. Compared to Haunted Spirit this is a pretty big downgrade and could hurt Death Splinter on lower mana fights in bronze and silver.

Venari Bonesmith

Venari Bonesmith (RARE) is a 4 mana magic attacker that gains health every time it attacks. Unfortunately, it's pretty slow and probably won't get too many attacks out. This seems like a niche card that will be good for certain rulesets but nothing meta or game-changing.

Harklaw

Harklaw (LEGENDARY) is an 8 mana tank with good armor and reduced damage from ranged and melee attacks. He should do fine as a high mana tank but his vulnerability to magic can hurt him in bronze and silver leagues.

How does Death Splinter look right now?

Honestly, Death is losing more than it's gained so far. Haunted Sprit is probably the biggest loss and Pelacor Deceiver is not a viable replacement.

Of course, we have no idea what any of the cards inside the Chaos Legion Packs are announced, so all this info could be useless.

Thanks for sticking around and reading!

If you made it this far I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time out of your day to read my post. I hope it was informative and helps you make better teams in Splinterlands!

Do you have any strategies you'd like to share? What Decks are you planning on using once Chaos Legion is live?
