Summoner General Sloan Analysis (EN - PT/BR)

Summoner General Sloan Analysis .png

Hello Splinterlands community, how are you?

I decided to create a series of posts to talk about the Summoners that are currently available in the Splinterlands Starter Pack. It's important to be clear that the opinions I'm going to give are primarily based on the deck I own, then I'll do an analysis of the cards I don't have and what they could improve in the use of each summoner.

Today's Summoner is General Sloan from the light deck. It adds a +1 ranged attack buff and uses 4 mana.

I decided to start with General Sloan because he adds a +1 ranged attack buff and because of all the Splinterlands attack types, I would say ranged is the one that needs the most attention to build a team. Ranged cards do not attack from first position unless they have the close range ability, so it is necessary to think carefully about the strategy to use so as not to have ranged cards immobilized in first position.

When using summoners that provide some buff, it is natural that the chosen cards are the ones that benefit from that buff. Therefore, my choices were made in order to create balanced teams, but always trying to choose as many cards as possible that benefit the summoner.

My experiences with General Sloan led me to the following conclusions:

In games with less than 20 mana I found it very difficult to win.
Matches with mana between 20 and 25 were difficult to win and to assemble a satisfactory team, but the win rate improved compared to matches with less than 20 mana.
In games with mana above 25 I got a much better win rate and I didn't have many difficulties because it is already possible to assemble some card combos that are very competitive.
My take on mana for the light deck with general sloan is that it becomes one of the most powerful decks to play in high mana matches. Mainly because we can do some combos with the Shieldbearer in the first position and the Pelacor Arbalest in the third or fourth position. As the Shieldbearer draws all attacks to itself while it is on the field, the Pelacor Arbalest is protected from cards with sneak and opportunity and can attack freely twice per round with 3 ranged attack.
There will hardly be a better combination than Shieldbearer and Pelacor Arbalest, because with Shieldbearer's 8 mana I can't pick a tank for first position and still protect Pelacor Arbalest from Sneak and opportunity, so, so far, I've taken this as the ideal combination and from there I add other cards depending on the rules and the amount of mana available. This combo requires 18 mana, hence the difficulty of making it work in games with less than 25 mana.

Below is a setup for matches with 30 mana available. For games with more mana available I would trade in 2nd and 6th position.

General Sloan - mana = 4
1st - Shieldbearer - mana = 8 "Taunt - Attracts all attacks"
2nd - Celestial Harpy - mana = 2 “Opportunity and flying“
3rd - Time Mage - mana = 4 "Slow"
4th - Venari Crystalsmith - mana = 4 “Tank Heal”
5th - Pelacor Arbalest - mana = 6 “Double Strike”
6th - Herbalist - mana = 2

Match rules that benefit General Sloan:

Equaliser: The starting Health of all Monsters is the same as the Monster on any team with the highest base Health.
Reason: It can fix the low health problem of the Pelacor Arbalest and combined with the use of monsters with low mana that can serve as a tank and prevent the arrival of the Pelacor Arbalest in the first position, it can be a very competitive option.

Close Range : Monsters that attack from a distance, can attack in first position.
Reason: Not much to say about this rule, it allows rangeds to attack in first position which greatly benefits the use of ranged monsters and General Sloan.

Fog of War: Snipe and Sneak abilities do not work.
Reason: Pelacor Arbalest can be positioned in the last position without fear of Sneak attacks. There may be issues with opportunity due to its low health.

Weak Magic: Magic attacks hit armor before health.
Reason: Shieldbearer becomes an even more powerful tank and Truthspeaker becomes a nice ally as it adds +2 defense to all your monsters.

Lost Magic: Magic attacks cannot be used.
Reason: Same reason as Weak Magic.

If you have settings for different battle rules and different amounts of available mana, let us know in the comments.

Thank you all for taking the time to read my post.

As minhas experiências com o General Sloan me levaram as seguintes conclusões:

General Sloan - mana = 4
1st - Shieldbearer - mana = 8 “Taunt - Atrai todos os ataques”
2nd - Celestial Harpy - mana = 2 “Opportunity and flying“
3rd - Time Mage - mana = 4 “Slow”
4th - Venari Crystalsmith - mana = 4 “Tank Heal”
5th - Pelacor Arbalest - mana = 6 “Double Strike”
6th - Herbalist - mana = 2
