Meet Lorkus's Best Friend, Hodlor

Ever wondered what it’s like to throw both a sword and a spell in the same turn? Hodlor does just that and it brings a weird but powerful combo that fits certain strategies if you know what you're doing. Having multiple attacks are starting to become a norm in Conclave Arcana but not on a mid-mana unit like Hodlor.
This is unrelated but did Hodlor's name came from a crypto strategy "Hold On your Dear Life (HODL)?" Anyways, enjoy this week's post as I teach you the ins and outs of this unit which I love playing alongside Lorkus for that double Life Leech strategy.
Let's talk about… Hodlor

Hodlor is a steward in the service of the archmagess Portia Nyr. Loyal. Quiet. Strong enough to carry ironbound chests fill with palladium ords without complaint. She trusts him to watch her back. He trusts her with everything.
During the Battle for Mox City, the rebels launched an assault on the Conclave Arcana’s manor. Portia and her mages locked themselves in their inner sanctum and began the incantations of a teleportation spell. But they needed time, so Hodlor held the door.

Buy and Rent:

At $34 for a level 4 Hodlor, the price feels a bit high especially since it's only Epic rarity and not even Legendary or at max level but considering this is a new card from the Conclave Arcana generation, the price starts to feel more justified. If you're aiming for a long-term addition to your team, Hodlor is one of the units you should not pass out on especially if you like using Lorkus which increases both melee and magic attacks.
Renting Hodlor at 50 DEC per day feels like a decent deal for an Epic card especially with this Splinterlands economy. I'm actually happy to see that you can finally rent max leveled Conclave Arcana units which are not available this past season. Now, if we only can rent a max leveled Conclave Arcana Archon at the same price, I would be completely satisfied.
Rule Sets:
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
| Use it in... |
 All melee units have Sneak (targets the enemy unit in the last position). While you can still use Hodlor behind the tank with his Reach, having Sneak is better to give you flexibility with the positioning. |
 Units do not have any armor and do not get armor from Abilities or Summoner Buffs. No armor means its full damage can go through and since it has no armor itself there's no disadvantage. |
 The initial Health of all Units is equal to that of the Units on either team with the highest base Health. While this unit excels in damage with his 3 melee and 2 magic attacks, we can't deny that a 5 health unit at max level is very flimsy and will die in 2 hits. Equalizer fixer this weakness giving this unit more survivability. |
| Avoid using it in... |
 All Units start the battle Poisoned. No immunity or cleanse makes its 5 health easy to melt from poison wasting its high attacks. |
 Units with the lowest Speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks. With 4 speed this unit becomes less effective. While the Magic attack part is unaffected, the 3 melee attack would probably miss a lot at 4 speed combined with Reverse Speed rule set. |
 All units have Thorns (returns 2 damage to attacker when hit by a melee attack) With his low health, getting any damage is very bad. Since Hodlor has melee attacks, the Thorns from Briar Patch rule set can be a problem for him. |

Battle Strat: My main strategy is to have units with multiple attacks gain Lorkus's Life Leech and Affliction abilities. Each attack activates these abilities which means Gramel the Hunger gets health up to thrice per round while Hodlor gets up to twice given that the attacks hit the enemy's health. This is a very solid strategy that has been working out for me through this season which you can do with different units.
Battle Summary: The game actually did not turn out as I expected. The enemy's Armored Strike deal a huge damage to me which made Hodlor die earlier than he should've been. My team was also in a level disadvantage which made this harder than it should be. My strategy though is better and it was able to make up for the difference between the level disadvantage. If I am using max level units or similar to my enemy, this would be an easy win for sure.
