Splinterlands - Cheap Opportunities

Opportunity is one of the abilities that stands the test of time in the game. Why? In this post I discuss why I think its such a great ability to have at a very reasonable price.

It was brought to my attention opportunity no longer works under Fog rule set. This leaves it to only be better than sneak ability in that opportunity will focus on knocking out monsters with lowest health. Of course there are ways to work around opportunity. A few options is to play cards with massive amount of toughness while having one health.

Ever-Hungry Skull is one example as such. Then there are the challenges of cards with opportunity tend to have slow speed and low health. If the opportunity monsters could withstand attacks they have the chance of inflicting significant damage on opponents.

There are over 20 cards with opportunity but only around 8 have speed at or above four. This is an example why having opportunity may not fair so well for slow monsters. Of course one way to counter this is to have reverse speed rule set.

Dual Combo With Opportunity

A key reason why I think the ability is great is its cost of entry is low and there are multiple monsters per splinter that allows the use of this ability.

In water splinter there is Deeplurker and Feasting Seaweed. Both cost less than $0.50 each bcx and having the opportunity ability at base level makes it very affortable.

An even cheaper combo is in earth splinter with Venari Scout and Screeching Vulture. Both cards combined is less than $0.25 and both have opportunity as base ability. The low mana to use either monster makes it ideal in low mana battles.

Life monsters with opportunity is not bad either in terms of price and stats. The going rates for Celestial Harpy and Cave Slug each is currently below $0.20. With respectable stats and affordable in Celestial Harpy with only 2 mana it is very difficult to ignore.

Not the best in terms of price and stats but to have a pair of neutral monsters with opportunity it could get dangerous with Parasitic Growth and Battering Ram under the right rule sets. Rule sets such as Fog and Equalizer.

Now I did not write about death, fire, and dragon as their combos of opportunity ability do not see as sync in terms of price or attacking besides Melee. All the combos we just mention focus on melee and being affordable.

Out of the dual monsters with opportunity I feel earth has the best one two punch in earth's combo. Just knowing both monsters can be bought at reasonable prices and be useful in battle makes them the winners. Have low mana to boot makes them is staples in low mana matches.
