Splinterlands - Double Strike Whammy (Ability Review)

Attack with a high damage is sometimes useful to take out opponents. The Double Strike ability has that capability.

Just reading this ability one would think that it would be a very popular ability to use. However the amount of monsters that actually has this ability is very limited.

Only 8 cards in the entire game has double strike but 2 of those are only allowed use in brawls. That brings only 6 cards with double strike. Interesting to note two of those six are in the life splinter.

Legendary with Double Strike

The Vigilator is the only legendary with double strike and is associated to the Dragon splinter. At max level the card includes thorn and poison abilities. Such a deadly combination. Its max melee is at 3 which is not really high relative to a use of 9 mana but knowing that it attacks twice it will have 3 melee and 2 range times 2! That is a total of 10 damage!

Most Popular Double Strike Monster?

I title this "most popular double strike monster" with a question mark because really this is my personal opinion. I am still going to state this, Silvershield Assassin is the most popular double strike monster. Its more popular than even Hobgoblin.

Silvershield Assassin at level 5 has all three abilities: sneak, double strike and poison. This is not difficult to achieve relatively compare to other cards as the card is a reward card and requires 21 bcx to reach level 5.

The likely reasons this card is very popular is likely because it can attack in any position in formation because by default it has sneak and double strike abilities. In addition as mentioned earlier this is a rewards card so dollar / bcx this is relative less in cost than other cards.

Enhance the Double Strike With Inspire

In another post we will look at another melee enhance ability in Inspire, but for now it is worth noting that having this ability in combined with double strike basically adds +2 melee attack on monsters with double strike.

I mentioned this combo is because often times when players look at attack stats of double strike monsters they feel it is not necessarily useful as it there are monsters that have higher attacks just doing it once. However add in Inspire the attack becomes much stronger than expected. Looking back at Vigilator again, max melee of 3 with inspire will make that 4 melee attack. Then with range and double strike it basically is 4 melee + 2 range times 2 for a total of 12 damage!

Conclusions

Double Strike not available in the mass with only 8 cards that has the ability. The max level attack on any of these cards is only 3 so on the surface it does not look to be a strong ability. However do a little math and mix in with Inspire ability it will make Double Strike a second look at. Applying the ability is pretty straight forward, it basically doubles the attack. Apply the ability with enhancements such as boosting melee or range summoners and Inspire ability will make them even stronger. Double check next time if using Double Strike can potentially get you a battle win.
