Splinterlands - Dragons Past and Present

This weeks Splinterland's battle review is on dragon splinter and specifically favorite dragon monsters. I am admitting now out of all the Splinters to pick from the game dragon is my favorite. From the very beginning when alpha cards were introduced and there were the three dragons I was hooked since.
As of now there are a series of unique dragon monster cards and I am here to talk about my favorites.

Alpha Dragons

image.png

Chromatic Dragon at the time of inception was one of the strongest melee monsters and it was know to be a solid tanker. The three headed red dragon stood out from other dragons. With only 563 regular alpha in circulation it is one of the very few dragons left in its existence in the game.

image.png

The Lightning Dragon with even less in circulation, 504 presently, is still one of my go to cards when ever I needed a high monster in attack from middle to rear of formation.

image.png

Finally the Gold Dragon with its strong magic attack makes it one of the staple cards in a dragon magic formation. At max level the Gold Dragon stands with a magic attack of 4! A standout by itself in magic. I use it almost daily in battles with dragon splinter.

Selenia Sky is the only alpha dragon summoner so it stands out by itself. The alpha dragon card that has the least in circulation currently is this card.

The beta series are duplicates of the alpha but with more cards in circulation. The beta do not earn an additional 10% in DEC per win as do the alphas yet with the great stats of the dragons the beta versions still are very desirable to this day.

Promo Dragons

image.png

A very rare group of dragons that were distributed at different times of Splinterlands existence falls under the Promo series. Promo in similar fashion to Alpha provide users of the cards a 10% DEC bonus when used to win rank battles.

The Delwyn Dragonscale, Dragonling Bowman, Fiendish Harpy and Red Dragon came from the TRX seed promotion. The cards are now limited compared to when they were first printed and distributed. Plenty of users who got cards during the promotion had a lot of Delwyn Dragonscale. The only common dragon summoner to date it is also one of the most expensive max summoner as it requires 505 cards to make it level 10.

With a total of nearly 250k Delwyn when first distributed it has now dewindle to slighting above 42k cards. I was fortunate to have purchases a 5 bcx version of it a few years back but have not added more since. A very unique card indeed as it boosts magic attack by +1.

One other note worth mentioning on the Promo series is the legendary summoners in Prince Julian and Archmage Arius. When first release they were very limited and only came in as max level cards. Since then the cards have risen in values that makes them some of the most expensive cards in the game. Prince Julian originally had a boost in health but was removed due to it being too advantageous. Nothing to be said with Archmage Arius as any player who plays Splinterlands is aware an attack boost is very useful but one that boosts all three types of attacks is just not often seen.

Both of these cards were only earned when the game still included mystery potions. Mystery potions would be bought in game and only one can be opened each day. The difficulty of earning any one of these summoners was challenging in itself because the potions ranges from common monster all the way to these legendary summoners. I tried a few mystery potions before they were removed from the game but never once got a legendary card let alone these two. They each also had a limited print therefore once players open enough of these cards another would have to be in its place. Currently both of these cards each have less than 100 in circulation.

Untamed Dragons

image.png

In following the footsteps of alpha and beta series the new dragons in Untamed were only legendaries. There were more dragons in Untamed but that did not reduce the quality of their abilities and stats when it came to game play.

Some of the most popular dragon cards I seen in use are the Vigilator and Dragon Jumper. With high stats and great offensive abilities such as double strike and opportunity respectively. The dragon splinter did not leave the summoners empty as in Byzantine Kitty stands out as one of the strongest Untamed summoners to be printed if not the strongest in dragon summoners.

Chaos Dragons

image.png

Chaos Legions is less than a week from grand opening and already there are a few legendary dragons in this series. In the same fashion as all the other series the dragons only come in as legendaries. At first glace the stats are very similar in those of the past dragons. To top of the Chaos Dragon has the highest mana to date of 14 and it is understandable as it has high magic attack and solid toughness and health stats.

Reward Dragons

image.png

Since the game's inception there has been reward cards given to players who play the game daily and completing daily quests. Within these rewards there are some dragon cards. The cards ranges from common all the way to legendaries and rightly so. Currently only Twlight Basilisk, Naga Assassin and Djinn Chwala are in print while the remaining Reward dragons shown in picture above are out of print and can only be obtain through purchasing of cards from other players.

Conclusions

There are plenty more to say about the Dragon splinter such as they have the most legendary cards in the game and that some of the strongest and most desirable summoners. The best part as most players who play the game are aware of is that when using the Dragon splinter they can mix in a separate splinter with dragon during battles. This makes dragons the only splinter to be versatile in the entire game.

To date in each series there are outstanding and very desirable dragon splinter cards. They stand out with great stats and also great art work. Who doesn't love a dragon?
