Splinterlands - My Initial Opinion On Focus...
At first it sounded great. Potential opportunities to earn more reward chests on daily quest and season rewards. Furthermore the increase potential in DEC rewards for using older cards that we either owned or rented. It all sounded good moving forward.
But then after playing in the new system for the past couple of days I have different feelings toward the new system. I was earning less on everything and then some....
My Rental Income Collapsed
My biggest passive income in crypto is in renting out Splinterlands cards. Currently I am earning less than 1/5th what I usually do in rentals from past seasons. This reduction in DEC income will slow me down in reinvesting into Chaos Legions cards and reward cards. I do intent to hopefully earn more but for rentals it does not seem that is where the earnings will come.
Rank Battles Rewards
With season resetting so are the player's rankings. I start of at Silver III but each win is not earning me much in DEC. In fact at nearly 100% ECR, Energy Capture Rate, I am getting just slightly over 3 DEC per a win. Not what I would say as hitting jack pot.
Daily Focus
Gone are the daily quests and in its place is this new rewards called focus. The challenge I am facing is I need to play 3 to 4 times as many matches to earn the daily reward chests. On top of that each reward chest earned requires more play. The past two days I have only played enough to earn 2 reward chests or focus chests. The rewards are similar to prior seasons but the amount of chests has been reduced.
Conclusions
Although the new rewards format is not as what I had hope for, aka earning more rewards, I will still give it some more time to get use to and see how I plays out. At least for the first couple of seasons, but for now my initial impressions of the rewards system is not ideal. Maybe players at higher ranks differ?

Agreed. I am still looking for the best possible way to earn points. The new rewards system has not been great for me the past two days, however I ended up on Diamond and that was not my idea. This makes earning a good amount of chest really hard. Maybe in gold I earn some more chests next season. My best bet seems to be to rent out all my cards and rent in a deck of the daily focus for the same amount of DEC. I bought a lot of cards to prepare for the new rewards system, just to rent different cards. Hoping that modern/wild changes this. Also I am tired of playing Yodin and Llama's.
I am not in the mood to play hundreds of matches to just get a handful of focus chests. Silver league I am earning less focus points per a win than in diamond just FYI.
It's getting difficult to get rewards now. I just play the seasons pts, as the focus requires so much games. If the splinters favours you, it's much easier. So far the focus I have received 2 rewards !

it’s awful. makes me not want to play which goes against their entire reasoning for doing it. be interesting to see what their metrics say after a week or so.
The developers better check metrics now rather than wait. If consensus don’t like it what are the odds many want to play like this?
I agree with your assessment and I also think it's quite tough for anyone who ranked in Silver at the end of the season to get chests as well. Some of the balancings on points required seem to be bad if you need like 30 wins to get a chest.

I don't understand your complaints - the developers are doing everything right, we are moving in the right direction - it takes a month to collect statistics and distribute awards. I am sure that everything will be fine!

Your the first to respond that you prefer the new focus chest instead of the previous rewards. So I am hopeful things will get better for me. Right now it takes me about 13 wins a day to get 2 reward chests. In silver league. Past seasons only 5. For me it’s difficult to earn more rewards. But again I will stick with It for a couple of seasons and see how it plays out.
It's looking like the bots are coming back online and renting again. It's going to be intresting to see how it shakes out but I've been theorizing that good playable cards would rocket to the top and that's what's happening. But these first three days were ugly for sure.
As for the reward chests, I just started playing again this season so I started in bronze. My first match I got 5 focus points. it was 300 for the first bronze chest. Now because I have decent cards (and I wasn't renting them anyway) I played up to Silver 1 with about an 80% win rate. I'm now getting about 10-11k Focus points per win. That means my first win of the day now gives me about 12 bronze chests.
I could go up to gold right now but I'm hanging back. Next season I'll be doing silver chests so it will be harder to earn them and I don't want to make it even harder by moving to gold and taking down my win rate.
SO it all seems to depend on where you are and how much grinding you're willing to do early. The other thing I find interesting is that while this was supposed to make people want to move up, since win rate is everything, the only way to really win is to play in a league where you can crush everyone. That means moving down.
I'm not sure if you did this or not but I think that last day rental ramp last season was about people pushing to the highest league possible and now a lot of people who are above where they should be are screwed this season and maybe next. People need to either rent up to a point of being hugely overpowered the rest of this season, or at next season's reset, stay where they are put and clean up there.
At any rate, I decided to stop playing today at 28 chests. It took a couple hours. I think tomorrow it will take about an hour unless silver 1 improves tomorrow. Right now its all lvl 1 starter card bots lol

You just need to focus on climbing up the leagues and you will have higher rp which means u can farm way more fp chests.
As other commenters have said, I believe the bots will be back. Things will stabilize, but it's definitely difficult for those with rental portfolios atm. Will give it a season or two before (if) i make any adjustments.
