Splinterlands - Own, Delegate, Rent, Transfer

In Splinterlands there are multiple ways to use a card. There are also fees associated to some of the features. Today's post is to go over what are the ways of using the cards beyond simply battling and which ones has fees.

Buy and Sell

The simplest one is buying and selling of a card. In order to do anything in the first place the player has to own the the card in their account. They can purchase the card through the game which will incur no fees for the buyer. However for the seller there is a 5% deduction from sale price of the card.

One good way for buyers to save an additional 2% to 2.25% in purchase of a card is through the use of third party market sites such as monstermarket.io or cardauctionz.com respectively. Both of these sites connect to the same database of cards being shown in market so transactions are secure and safe.

In addition if players wish to sell their cards to pay less fee the third party site peakmonsters has a function for this.

Through peakmonsters.com once you pick out the card/s to sell a window popups where you can select the fee to incur when the sale executes. Note you can lower the fee to 4% instead of the fix 5% however with the reduce fee comes a couple of drawbacks. The drawbacks are the card/s would not be visible on Splinterlands in game market and the price of $/bcx will be distorted making the card/s potentially difficult to search.

Renting

An added function in game for Splinterlands that made the rental market boom is none other than separating the rental from delegation of cards. With collaboration between peakmonsters and Splinterlands the end result was a rental system that is totally separate from buy/sell market or delegation. The separation allowed end users to easily define how long and what cards to rent out much easier. In addition the transactions running much smoother. Making it an overall easy and useful feature for cards to earn passive income. In my opinion this is better than even staking NFTs such as the likes of WAX games as the cards when rented out they still are being utilize in some form.

Players can rent out cards using either Splinterlands in game platform or peakmonsters.com. Recommend using peakmonsters as there are more functions.

Renters do not have to pay any fees. They pay direct amount of DEC per a day to rent out the card. A warning the game will allow the renter to rent out card beyond the amount they have held in their DEC wallets. This would be a concern if the renter can not pay a rental daily fee and automatically have the rental contract broken. If broken the renter will automatically have the card returned back to the lender within 24 hours.

In order to combat players from flipping cards for multiple uses a card can once used by a player has a cool down of 24 hours before it can be used by another player. The same player that first used it has no cool down required to continue using the the card.

Lenders on the other hand will incur a 5% fee for renting out a card successfully. The fee is incurred on a daily basis as the renter's payment is recieved. Whether lending out cards in Splinterlands or peakmonsters the same fees are incurred. All rental payments are paid in DEC so the fee is in DEC.

Delegating Cards

image.png

An original feature of Splinterlands is the ability to delegate a card to any player. Let say you have a card you wish to lend out to someone but there is some form of agreement made between the two parties to make this decision outside that of the game. Players can manually delegate a card to someone else use. Once a card is delegated the recipient can use it in battles and tournaments similar to as if they own the card. There is no fees to bother the delegator or the recipient and the delegation can only be stopped manually.

In similar to rental of cards there is a 24 hour cool down time on last player use to prevent multiple use of the card in a given day.

A finally comment on delegating in the past peakmonsters had used delegation as part of their way to rent out cards for players. The trouble then was delegation mean no fees hence players had to use peakmonsters in order to rent cards and earn. There was also a 7 day cool down period making significant times where cards were simply unable to play. The drop from 7 day to 24 hours cool down came about because the delegation is now separate from the renting.

Transfer Card

Another way of using a card once in your wallet is to transfer it to another player. Similar to delegating you can transfer a card to someone but the difference is this is a permanent transaction. The card you transfer will directly go to its recipient and you relinquish your control of the card in its entirety. Transfer of card/s is done manually. This could be potential for sales of cards in bulk outside the game or players moving cards from one account to another account.

Conclusions

One other use worth mentioning when card is in your account. The card can be burned for fixed amount of DEC. The card once burned is no longer in its existence, however players who burn the card gets the DEC in their wallets. What would cause a player to burn a card rather than trying to sell it on the market. It could be they want to have immediate liquidity so burning card provides that. However selling the card currently will have at least 2x DEC burn rate value minimum due to the high demand for cards.

I hope this post is somewhat useful for all as I went discussing the ways you can use a card once its in your ownership in Splinterlands. Furthermore I talked about the rental and selling of cards incurs fees while buyers of cards can earn a discount through using one of the specific third party sites I mentioned earlier.
