Splinterlands - Protecting Your Cards

Recently there has been news spreading about player's accounts being stolen and with that players lost all their cards through unwanted sales and unwanted transfers. Splinterlands has been proactive with trying to help players secure their cards but its not 100% full proof just like anything else in the digital world. Here are some tips worth implementing and being aware of to protect your accounts.

Activate Authority For Transfer of Assets

As title of this section lists inside Splinterlands settings you can turn on or off the requirement to provide authority for transfer of assets. This means if you are trying to move a pack, card, or DEC it will require your Hive's pass key in order to execute the transfer. The pass key can be stored in keychain to speed up the process during transfer.

Step 1) In game select your name on top right screen and in drop down menu pick "Settings".

Step 2) A new window will pop up and make sure "Require active authority for transferring assets out of your account" is activated.

Lock Up Your Cards

An additional layer of added security in game is the ability to allow you to lock up your cards from 1 to 30 days.

Step 1) In the card collection view select any individual card you own and click on the lock symbol.

Step 2) A new window stating all the functions and restrictions you will perform when locking up the card you just selected. The option is to type a number from 1 through 30 that represents how long the lock up will be on the card.

Step 3) Click on "Lock" and a new window will pop out to ask for confirmation.

Click "OK". You will have to input authority key pass to execute the lock up if you already have your Activate Authority function live.

The end result would look like this snapshot below, where a green lock is highlighted.

Main takeaway of its use as stated in game:

Locking cards means that these cards will not be able to be transferred, burned, or listed ofr sale on the market until they are unlocked.

This feature is intended to be used on cards you do not plan to transfer or sell and want to protect in the event that your private account keys are hacked/stolen.

Try to Avoid Phishing Links

As players get deeper into Splinterlands they may find themselves interacting with plenty of other players. Whether the platform is discord, hive.blog, telegram, twitter and others may offer links to you as a player to entice you to click. In turn the link is actually some sort of malware where potentially your Splinterlands account could be stolen.

In game Splinterlands can only go so far to assist you in protecting your assets. You also need to stay vigilant so not to accidentally click on a computer link that appears suspicious. Like the old saying goes if its too good to be true it probably is.

Conclusions

As overall market cap of Splinterlands continue to soar the popularity of the game is also growing. This in turn becomes a great camping ground for crypto hackers to try to steal players' accounts. In game there are features that can slow down the pace of hackers, but you yourself have to also do your best to avoid accidentally clicking on unwanted links and/or providing key passes accidentally. Stay safe fellow Splinterland players.

Great tips, I never knew about the card lock. That's an awesome feature to have.

The biggest thing is Keeping them keys safe and like you said don't click links. Never on any site click a comment link or even a link you don't verify first.
