Maxmaka Splinterlands Corner - My Splinterlands Journey

Heya Splinterlanders :)

It was a late, dark January afternoon, sitting in front of the monitor, I was browsing through various web3 game projects. Of course, most of them promised the moon – elaborate gameplay, stunning graphics. All of that was just around the corner, work was nearing completion. Since card games have always been close to my heart, I always paid more attention to this genre. In the end, I settled on Splinterlands. As always, I checked the gameplay, community involvement, and tokenomics. The project had been around for some time, had a ready product, and everything looked satisfactory. But something didn't click; maybe I didn't spend enough time, or perhaps, at that time, other projects seemed more promising and engaging. Maybe the autobattler style seemed too simple to me, which, of course, later turned out to be a false assumption. I let it go.

I returned to the project in June 2021. It was already in the phase of booming, SPS airdrop was announced, Bitcoin and the whole crypto market were in quite good shape. So unfortunately the Splinterlands train already has left, but I find the game exciting and much more complex than I thought a few months earlier.

The assets were already quite expensive, with so low supply of older cards and still no new set edition on the close horizon window I started by renting the cards and playing as much as I could :). Another thing at that time was there was some imbalance between specific assets. The most profitable approach was to keep DEC instead of cards to get better SPS airdrop quantity.
I was getting better with each game and as I gained experience, but still playing with rented cards required finding the balance with rental cost and rewards. During that time you received quite a lot of DEC as battle rewards because DEC depeg hard from its expected value, but of course, it was balanced with the higher cost of renting cards. Demand was massive, and sometimes it was difficult to find some cards available to rent. Another thing was the end of the season time when the rental market was going crazy. After some changes during that time, everybody needed Collection Power, and usually, you needed to pay 5x-10x more for it. Crazy times :)

But it still was a great experience, you get some rewards, gather assets that belong to you, and still have a lot of fun. It was even better when you had some more luck getting Gold Foil reward card, it happened to me after around 3 weeks of playing, and I still hodl it :) (probably not the best idea, it was worth around 500$ then :) )

Here is my stats for my main account:

Of course, after some time it was obvious that you can play more accounts and get more rewards. For Shearha account I tried to go higher league, and if I had known earlier that there is something like Champion Points, which give you SPS airdrop points, I would definitely have gone to the Champion League faster.

I slowly gathered more assets, and after some time I finally got more staked SPS which is required to play tournaments. The new world just opened to me. The competitive spirit of these events brought out the best in my strategic thinking and deck-building skills. Each tournament presented a unique challenge, pushing me to adapt and refine my strategies further. The sense of camaraderie among participants, combined with the thrill of progressing through the brackets, created unforgettable moments and lasting memories. I played all levels of tournaments among 3 different accounts, from the bronze to champion. And having a chance to win versus the most known players in the highest league was a blast :). Unfortunately in current market conditions is not so profitable to rent cards for higher leagues, so now I usually join lower-level tournaments, but still waiting to get back to the top :).

Other stat, I'm not sure which battles are calculated here, but in the first months that was my main page to check my winrate and track it. Now, it's not so important, because I usually don't play ladder manually.

As my passion for Splinterlands grew, I decided to share my gaming experiences with the world by becoming a Splinterlands.tv Twitch streamer. Streaming not only provided an avenue to connect with the vibrant Splinterlands community but also allowed me to showcase my gameplay, strategies, and card collections. The real-time interaction with viewers, discussing tactics, and receiving valuable tips from experienced players added a new layer of enjoyment to my gaming sessions. I almost immediately started to organize a special prediction game during my stream, it was something different than just gameplay. Viewers have the opportunity to check their skills and of course, win some rewards. I still continue doing it on my personal Twitch channel, please come and check :)

The Splinterlands community has proven to be an essential part of my journey. I started by gathering some Polish players around our Discord server (shoutout to @atnazo and @laaca :) ). Writing was just not enough to communicate so many things, so we started organizing discussions, usually streaming on Twitch. Sometimes we could talk for 4-5 hours about everything, strategy, in-game economy, world economy, and everything else sometimes quite far from SPL.

From fellow Twitch streamers to seasoned players, the community's support and encouragement have been instrumental in my growth as a player and content creator. Collaborative efforts, friendly competitions, and shared enthusiasm for the game have fostered a sense of belonging that extends beyond the digital realm. I still have hope to see the rebirth of Splinerlands.tv, and of course me as one of the streamers there :).

And of course, you can not forget about the guild system. I have checked several guilds but finally found the place in the most active and strong one. In my opinion, I have enough skills to fight in the top guilds, but unfortunately, my assets still can't keep up :) So I'm in some guild family like YGG, but not in the top positions guild, yet :). But I always do my best in every competition, from the guild tournament to the brawls. Below are stats for the previous guild where I achieved the best winrate among all guldmates:

As I reflect on my Splinterlands journey, I am excited about what the future holds. It wasn't always a smooth ride, sometimes there were moments of doubt. I still hope that the game's ongoing development, new card releases, and the ever-evolving competitive scene promise to keep the experience fresh and engaging. Whether I'm exploring new strategies, streaming live on Twitch, or competing in tournaments, Splinterlands continues to captivate me, providing a dynamic and immersive gaming experience within the realm of Web3.

I hope you like this kind of report, battle, and strategy presentation. More strategy analysis, discussion, and prediction games you can find on my Wednesday Twitch Channel stream. There will be schedule soon :)

If you have any comments, please do not hesitate. Do you think I could improve anything just tell me :)

Thanks for sharing your story. I've got to get around to making one of these posts soon. It has been such a fun learning experience to see all these familiar names from Splinterlands and Hive share their origin story, especially those of my guildmates and others whose stories are similar to mine!
