Strategy Corner #28- Lost Legendaries Ruleset - Do we need change in Gladius system ?

Heya Splinterlanders :)

For the last few weeks, we had several rulesets that I describe as collection limitation rulesets. Some of them are quite annoying for example odd ones where you just lost half of your collection with odd mana costs, which I'm not a big fan of. But some of them like the last little league is actually something refreshing. Today we got Lost Legendaries, pretty simple but still sometimes some limitations could be interesting, let's jump to the description:

Description:

Legendary units may not be used.

Legendary summoners are still available.

Firstly, the description of the ruleset in the game is not perfect, sometimes you get just general information which not giving you all information you need. Best way to read the full description as above from the game documentation at least once. You can check all here.

I seriously encourage you guys to check this site, even more advanced players could find something interesting there.

There isn't much to say about that ruleset: you just cannot use legendary monsters, but what is important you can still play legendary summoners. Overall the power level of the battle is dropped, you could play some slower and usually less powerful monsters. I think in general you could rely more on some support monsters which sometimes when you play versus very powerful cards sometimes are just too slow. In general, you still use a similar strategy, but sometimes you need to replace that legend with lower power cards.

For the battle, I choose some Life versus Dragon with those new soulbound summoners. As you can see both players choose a card that allows them to play one Gladiator card. I think it's quite important to notice that because when we get cut-off legendaries, other cards which seem more powerful are exactly gladiator cards.

From gladiator cards opponent choose the very powerful Ketralba Gobson, which we discussed a few times before. For my team unfortunately I couldn't choose Captain Katie, because of no magic ruleset, so another quite powerful card from my collection was Marisol Contuma. Another very powerful card is Djinn Chwala, fortunately, we got some defense against that powerful thorn card. The opponent chooses to take 2 martyr cards, we will try to analyze that in the next section, so let's go first for the fight:

image.png

Round 2, seems like a boring round, we almost kill the Djinn with a very focused fire team, but still, we need to be careful about Ketrabla.

image.png

Round 3, was a very good round for our team, we got a bloodlust buff from killing the Djinn, additionally, again we were very focused on targeting we managed to kill another reach monster. Our Supply Runner was tough enough to survive another round.

image.png

Round 4, We got another great kill with bloodlust, and the best news is that our Runner is still on the battlefield. The bad news is that Ketralba gets buff, but she is almost dead :)

image.png

Round 6 - final blow, we skipped round 5, where our opponent got plenty of luck and avoid almost all our hits. But in round 6 finally, we got some hits and won the battle.

Let's start with our team, specific cards we will analyze below, but overall our team seems quite powerful. Protect ability is amazing no magic ruleset, and of course, Supply Runner is great for the last positions.
How about the enemy team, I think he tries to put everything on one card: Ketralba Gobson, unfortunately with that setup of martyr cards it was rather unrealistic to get the buff from them quite easily. Maybe if the magic was available, the opponent could predict using the Katie cards, but for that setup, even opportunity units won't target those martyr cards. So I think it was a big mistake which cost the opponent the battle.

FRANZ RUFFMANE, after the soulbounds summoners was presented, my first impression was that they are overpriced and offer too less. But after playing them more and more my opinion changed dramatically. As we can see above, both players even when they have the option to use legendary summoners, still stay with that one that allows them to play powerful gladiator cards. It's even more important when those cards are just much more powerful than regular epic and rare modern cards.

image.png

MARISOL CONTUMA is maybe not the most powerful gladiator card and it has some problem to competing with another reach card: Corsair Bosun. But if your choice is limited with the ruleset when usually using Captain Katie is the best choice, I think Marisol is very powerful. It has very high damage and speed, and with additional buff, it could be enough to carry the whole battle. I don't know even what are additional abilities in higher leagues, because it's not easy to get more copies of those cards. I hope we will get other solutions for that :)

image.png

CHAOS KNIGHT, last but not least, the cards which could seem not so powerful, but only at first glance. In some circumstances that card may be very strong, with some good defense skills and high armor. Of course, you need to avoid any magic damage or have some other defense. No magic ruleset is the natural environment for it, but sometimes you can use different strategies like Rathe of Iziar, and Chaos Knight could be still very useful, even with battle when magic units are available.

I think today's battle and ruleset analysis can open some discussion about something which become a more hot topic recently - gladiator cards. With new soulbound summoners which allow you to play one of that cards in normal ladder and tournament battles, now it's quite important to have more options to get those cards faster and in a more controlled way. Last time I was referring to Bulldog's Twitter post, where you discussed the tree ability options to have some switches which could help you to control what cards you can get from Gladius Cases. Another idea is to get some points that allow you to buy gladiator cards of your choice. I hope the dev team will notice that problem and try to apply some solutions because overall gaining gladiator cards are still too slow and too random. Some players are not in the fair positions in important battles, only because they got no luck with opening Gladius Cases to get those key powerful cards (which cannot be bought from the market).
How about you guys? Do you think we need any changes in that distribution system? As always leave you comment below :)

We continue our game from the previous week, today new battle, new card to win :).

I come to some ideas, I hope you will like them and participate. Every week I will publish one battle, and your goal is to point out the first victim of the battle and who will be the winner. This game is exactly the same as my prediction game which I run on my Wednesday Splinterlands.tv stream. I know that not everyone can attend the stream, so I hope you will still have fun in that way. More about the rules can be read here.

Among all participants who get the correct answer, I will randomly (probably on my Wednesday stream) choose one winner.

The prize of the blog prediction game for the lucky winner will be the epic card:

Here we got the battle :

Game instruction:
Try to point out which monster will die first on the battlefield and who wins the battle

  • t - top player
  • b - bottom player
  • number - order counting from the first position

Examples:
t2b = monster on the second position of top player die first, the bottom player wins
b6t = monster on the sixth position of bottom player die first, the top player wins
t3t = monster on the third position of top player die first, the top player wins
