Strategy Corner #37- Stampede Ruleset - Quite niche ruleset in lower league

Hiya Splinterlanders :)

Unfortunatly I missed the last Battle Mage secret article (Strategy Corner), I was traveling and unfortunately, I couldn't find time to write it. It's a pity, because the ruleset was definitely more interesting than today's one. More about it in the ruleset definition.
And what is going around Splinterlands recently? There's quite a lot going on actually :) We got nice hype about the new Rebellion set (Presale is still on) , DEC price is going up. Now everyone is waiting for lands, me too, and we talked about why :). Fingers crossed :).

Description:

Trample will retrigger infinitely as long as the trampling unit keeps killing other units.

Prime use case for Summoner Possibilus the Wise.

Firstly, the description of the ruleset in the game is not perfect, sometimes you get just general information which does not give you all the information you need. The best way to read the full description as above from the game documentation at least once. You can check all here.

I seriously encourage you guys to check this site, even more advanced players could find something interesting there.

As the article's title says, I think Stampede is not a very useful ruleset in lower leagues. Not many monsters have trample abilities, and usually, they are not powerful enough to make a difference. Of course, we can always use Possibilus, and sometimes he does the job, but you need to be careful about it. I will try to explain more with today's battle.
I haven't played higher leagues for a longer time already, but when I played it was totally different story for Stampede ruleset. With a proper ruleset and line-up, one good trampler could destroy all of the opponent's team. Satisfaction was enormous :)
Let's check our battle:

image.png

Today's battle is Chaos Set only silver lever tournament. I saw quite an interesting ruleset and I got some ideas to use it. How did it go? Let's see.

image.png

My idea, of course, was to utilize Possibilus the Wise ability - trample with the combination of Melee Mayhem. The plan seemed quite solid, we used Demoralize from Disintegrator to lower the damage of the opponent's units (Up close and Personal - only melee monster available) and of course Armor protection from Arkemis the Bear. I'm not happy with Pelacor Bandit there, but we need some filler.
The opponent went with quite a standard Kelya team, Diemonshark, Deeplurker - boring. The most scary unit was Coastal Sentry, is it enough for our team?

image.png

Round 2, no casualties in this round, but unfortunately because of the speed difference next round could be quite devastating to us.

image.png

Round 3, we lost two units, unfortunately, because of that crazy face on Diemonshark (some bug :) I talked about enraged ability ), we missed two of our attacks. The opponent even with our demoralize ability has a damage advantage.

image.png

Round 4, finally we managed to kill that crazy head monster (Diemonshark :), but the situation didn't look good. The double striker is so OP here, and even usually useless Deeplurker is better than our monster here :(.

image.png

Final Blow - Round 5 - we haven't got even chance to counterattack. The speed difference was enough to devastate our team, and finally opponent made the last hit. The failure :(

Okay, so what went wrong? The setup (besides Pelacor) looked so strong: with armor for protection and lowered melee damage we should have an advantage here. Unfortunately, I got many similar battles, when Kelya was just a better summoner in water mirror matches. We got some Splinterlands.tv streams with a dedicated Prediction stream about it, and for my personal channel I have prepared another session with Possibilus , which should be scheduled this week (check my Twitter page: Maxmaka Splinterlands Corner for more details). Additional armor from summoner and speed usually is enough to make a difference. In our setup we had to use Bear, quite an expensive unit to get armor protection, it cost us a lot of damage power. Another important factor was speed, (you know my saying: speed is king :) ), our units didn't get even a chance to hit, because the opponent just killed them before :).
Overall with any battles without armor, Possibilus the Wise could be a better choice, but in any other cases I usually rely on Kelya and today's battle just proved it again.

POSSIBILUS THE WISE, in the first glance I wasn't big fan of that card. I think I even said it's completely trash :). I changed my opinion, but still, I think you need to be careful when using Possibilus. We had some Prediction streams when we already analyzed some battles, but my rule of thumb is: to use Possibilus when armor is not available in the battle. In most cases, Keyla is just a better summoner and of course, you can still win with Possibilus, but it's just less likely :( .

image.png

ARKEMIS THE BEAR we talked about bear many times, and the card is just powerful. In today's battle maybe it wasn't the best choice, but overall in any melee only higher mana matches Bear is just a staple. It gives sp needed protection when you use any summoner without an armor bonus, especially in melee matches. Solid choice and quite cheap (for renting, I haven't checked the market prices). I usually rent the gold foil version for the lower league.

image.png

COASTAL SENTRY, is definitely the card that I missed in my today's setup. So high damage, and with additional trample from Possibilus could save that battle. The perfect card in Possibilus setup, but still the armor could be a problem here, and without the option to use a new souldbound card : (BTW: Can we still call them new cards ? ) Noa the Just to neutralize it, as we discussed in analysis section, it can be not enough :(. Still, Coastal Sentry should be the first card to consider in any melee-only matches, with any water or dragon summoner.

I think the failure analysis is necessary to get better in any aspect of life. The same is true in any game, Spliinterlands in particular, because you just cannot win everything here.
Before I used a very useful tool - Splintertools, which allowed me to check different setups and get a better understanding of what was going on on the battlefield. Unfortunately, recently the tool is not available, devs behind it just abandoned the project. I hope something similar could be implemented in the core game someday.

I hope you like this kind of report, battle, and strategy presentation. More strategy analysis, discussion, and prediction games you can find on my Wednesday Twitch Channel stream. There will be schedule soon :)

If you have any comments, please do not hesitate. Do you think I could improve anything just tell me :)

We continue our game from the previous week, today new battle, new card to win :).

I come up with some ideas, I hope you will like them and participate. Every week I will publish one battle, and your goal is to point out the first victim of the battle and who will be the winner. This game is exactly the same as my prediction game which I run on my Wednesday Splinterlands.tv stream. I know that not everyone can attend the stream, so I hope you will still have fun in that way. More about the rules can be read here.

Among all participants who get the correct answer, I will randomly (probably on my Wednesday stream) choose one winner.

The prize of the blog prediction game for the lucky winner will be the epic card:

Here we got the battle:

image.png

Game instruction:
Try to point out which monster will die first on the battlefield and who wins the battle

  • t - top player
  • b - bottom player
  • number - order counting from the first position

Examples:
t2b = monster on the second position of top player dies first, the bottom player wins
b6t = monster on the sixth position of bottom player dies first, the top player wins
t3t = monster on the third position of top player dies first, the top player wins

Awesome post, max. Too bad you lost the battle. Speed is the king (when Immortalis is absent, otherwise Immortalis is the king).

My prediction for this week is:
t6b

(I know you're the bottom one because you would never use Deeplurker) 😂

Interesting strategy Max. I feel like Coastal Sentry is almost always a must add with the rulesets. But the speed really hurt you.

For the guessing game, I think it is t6b

I'll try. This is the reason why I miss SPLTV. Every SPL stream is there and I can just leave it on in the background.
