A beginners journey into the Splinterlands.

To begin, a little about myself. I'm a 38 year old male residing in the heart of the U.S. Married with a total of 5 kids in the house. My 6 month old identical twin boys, my 2 year old boy, my 13 year old step-daughter and 15 year old step-son. Though step-kids, I claim them as my own and treat them as such. I even bought the spellbook and introduced this game to my 15 year old, explaining to him that if he can spend hours a day on a game, he might as well make some money too! I work in the communications field as a technician in an office. If you live in the cities I work in, your service with the provider I work for likely began in my office. So that's just a little about me, now on to the start of my journey. This first post will be fairly short. If you're interested, stick around and join me on this adventure!

So here I begin my journey into this world. I'm fairly new to Crypto in general, very new to this game. Here I intend to post about my daily or weekly dive into this game. I'll share my experiences, my daily earnings and rewards as well. I've only been playing for about a week now. I invested $200 into SPS and immediately staked it. I invested another $50 into DEC. Add $10 for the spellbook and another $25 in credits. That puts me at $285 total invested to start this journey. I begin the game as a Novice. I watch a few videos and tutorials. I spend about $30 total in renting cards.

Playing about 30 minutes to 2 hours a day just grinding away. I'm losing more than I'm winning, but after a week, I'm starting to get the hang of it. I'm enjoying the experience thus far. I climbed the ranks into Silver II in a weeks time. The end of this season is near and I stand to gain 15 chests. My daily quests and DEC from wins has gained me another ~$20 in the last week. That is adjusted for the price of SPS and DEC fluctuating and current as of this posting. I'd say not too bad for a beginner and definitely not bad earnings for playing a game. This is only the beginning. Stay tuned for more!

Hello @mcslim82! This is @traciyork from the @ocd (Original Content Decentralized) curation team. We noticed you shared your first post here on Hive and introduced yourself to the community - congratulations and welcome! Your story sounds a little familiar, but I'm in the Northeast, my husband used to work as a com tech (semi retired now) and our 3 kids (in their 20s) are living with us at the moment. I need to borrow your strategy though, as my son hasn't shown an interest in Splinterlands yet (doesn't help that I haven't given it a go yet...lol). I keep telling him it's an awesome community as well as game, but maybe if I get him a spellbook it will seal the deal! :D

Speaking of community, we have many different ones here on the blockchain, devoted to all kinds of interests. Here's a link so you can check them all out - Hive Communities. I see you already found Splinterlands, and you might be interested in the Hive Gaming Community as well.

Also, as Hive can sometimes be quite confusing, the newly launched Newbies Guide is a growing repository of useful and easy to understand posts about how the Hive ecosystem works.

Please be aware that Hive is a bit different from other social media platforms since you are monetizing your blog, so it is important not to include content that you don't own without sources (and it shouldn't exceed 50% of the post). For more information, check this post - Why and How People Abuse and Plagiarise by hivewatchers.

In addition, since you're new, you may run into an RC (Resource Credits) error when trying to comment/post because you don't yet have enough Hive in your account yet. For assistance with a temporary delegation to get you started, be sure to check out the Gift Giver site.

If you have questions, feel free to hop into the OCD Discord server and we'll do our best to answer them, and again welcome to Hive!

Hello! Thank you for the comment and the information. I'm still learning quite a bit about this community so that information is quite helpful.

My son is 15. Technically he is my step-son, but I still claim the boy! :) He is always locked away in his room playing some game or another. He loves trying to find cheats in every game but he loves strategy style games. Games that make him have to think. So this fit the bill. He came to me wanting to build a computer and I told him if he came up with half, I'd chip in the other half and build it. When I told him just playing this could earn him some crypto, he jumped on board. I made a wallet for him that I hold the keys for. Gotta be secure in this day and age. So far he hasn't played much. But it's a start!

Thanks again for the comment. I didn't think this first post would gain any attention. This only makes me want to continue this what I'll now call a series of blogs about my experiences not only in Splinterlands, but the Hive Community and my growth in this game and in Crypto.
