Welcome to the game! I have only been playing for around a year, so I'm not an expert, but one of the biggest things to keep in mind is the ordering of your team. If I have the Mana, I like to play a strong melee monster in first spot and a "reach" monster in seconds spot. From there, I will put a few magic monsters and lastly ranged. In general, you always want to put the magic monsters in front of the ranged monsters as magic monsters can still fight from first position whereas ranged monsters cant.
