Splinterlands slashes prices on Chaos packs. Good or bad for the economy? Also, Week 20 of pack openings.

Here's what I have learned in 20 weeks. The value of what you have purchased is greatly influenced by the game creators.

Chaos packs were first released at $4.00 or 4000 DEC. And you can still buy packs for that on Spliterlands.

But you shouldn't, because they are only $1.60 on Tribaldex and Hive Engine.

So why are packs dropping so low on Tribaldex?
Because Splinterlands has cut the price of bulk purchases by about 40%.
SPLINTERLANDS HOLIDAY DEALS
See that holiday deal is for the big investors. They can buy packs for around $2.38, sell the promo cards for good money and dump the packs on Tribaldex.

And is that good or bad for the ecomony? Well, it's bad for me. See, I bought packs at $2.25 on Tribaldex and I open the packs and sell the cards. And I was hoping to eek out a small profit by the end of 52 weeks of opening packs.

But my prediction was based on what cards were selling for 20 weeks ago. It's pretty simple. More cards are about to come on the market and the price of cards will drop even more. Ouch, Ouch, Ouch!

Look at Heatsmith. See below. There's 20,000 of them on the market now at $0.01. Those are never going to sell. Every time I open a pack, that's a worthless card.
image.png
I guess if I save up 5 of them, then there's a market to sell a Level 2 for $0.02. So, I can look forward to that.

So why did Splinterlands cut the price on Chaos packs? It puts cash into the coffers. Remember when they did away with 40% of the employees due to crypto and market downturn? Operational costs eat every day. If the game's not bringing in new subscribers and new product isn't being sold, then prices have to be slashed to move the inventory sitting on the shelf. It's survival and I recognize it from a business standpoint.

And, it's a reward to big investors. Buy a lot of that inventory that's been slashed in price. Skim off the promos and dump the rest on the market. I get that too. It's taking a profit when you can. I'm not hating on someone else making a smart investment move

What's a small time player/investor to do? It's about taking the path provided and adapting. Chaos packs aren't going to be a long-term investment strategy, but they are a good day-trading item. Don't buy now, but wait for the dust to settle. When they bottom out, buy and then sell on the bumps. Focus on the assets that are least likely to be manipulated. DEC and SPS, maybe? I'm not sure. Leave me your comments. I think SPS has a chance since it's the governance token. DEC maybe since it's the token for buying cards in-game. Both bumped up after the announcement of the Chaos pack bulk sales.

Well, this post turned out to be a long one. Here's this week's pack opening. Burned me again!

I am opening 52 packs in 52 weeks of Splinterlands Chaos Legion. I purchased the packs at around $2.25 on Tribaldex, which is a great discount from the retail price of $4 a pack on Splinterlands. But will I have a profit at the end of the year? Not quite this week. The return on this pack was a pretty shabby $1.65. The cumulative cost at this point is $45, while the return is now at $56.10. The pack opening wasn't all that bad this time around! I opened one yesterday that I got in EOS rewards and pulled a gold foil goblin tower, wasn't too bad. I have been thinking I should start picking up Chaos packs while they are cheap and just hang on to them, with the burn happening eventually they are going to go in value when they are completely sold out and burnt on Splinterlands. Keep up the good work, and you got a decent epic pull!

Packs will be dropping for a while in price now. Probably should set a buypoint at $1.40 or so. I was at $1.80 but the holiday sale is going to really drive down those pack prices on Tribaldex.

I agree, I've been watching the prices very closely. I'm going to move some extra cash into hive and just wait for the time to strike! In the long run the holiday sale might actually help us out.

We're down to $1.48 on packs now, it may drop below $1.40!

Not sure if you use this https://splintercards.com/tool-packvalue.html But at even $1.40 packs are a loss at current market rate of cards, if you are using potions. If you have potions on hand and don't consider them as a cost then it is slightly profitable at $1.40.

I was going to use $1.40 as my buypoint, but maybe I should choose a lower number. Prices dropped faster than I thought.

Funny! I just dropped you a comment on your last post! I am doing well and I hope the same for you. Mostly, I am trying to figure out how to stay ahead of the inflation in Splinterlands. After a year, I am worse off than when I started in that world.

Same for me, I did however had some nice trades in SPL, but those gains are slowly declining, because of the falling prices. It will probably be a long term game. When SPS rises to new heights, that's when people will come to the game in mass.
For the moment I am just stacking hbd in my savings account.

GRAN APORTE!
