Intriguing Battle with Equalizer Ruleset - BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Challenge

Splinterlands battle would look just too simple until you get to draw battle rulesets. Each ruleset has it uniqueness that requires a unique set of winning strategies. Failure to figure that out could be really costly. Engaging the game each time with these new sets of rulesets helps me explore the game better and indeed punches hard at helping me up my strategic thinking skills especially when you have to think through within a few minutes allotted to set up your team. Sometimes, you may not draw that ruleset in a long time.

This week's battle BATTLE MAGE SECRETS challenge calling detailing the Equalizer ruleset was another big challenge to face. When the Equalizer ruleset is active, all unit start with the same health, based on the highest health on either team. Also, buffs and debuffs are done afterward - this impacts base health. It took my study of the result of the battle to really understadn how this ruleset works.

Let's get in...

Battle

Manna cap: 16

My Summoner: KELYA FRENDUL

First Monster in battle line: NERISSA TRIDAWN

Second Monster in battle line: MERDAALI GUARDIAN

Enemy Summoner: TARSA

First Monster in battle line: Flame Monkey

Second Monster in battle line: Fineas Rage

Third Monster in battle line: Radiated Scorcher

Fourth Monster in battle line: Chaos Agent

Fifth Monster in battle line: Xenith Archer

My Strategy

I have a special affinity for NERISSA TRIDAWN and decided to let it lead the battle for her special magic attack. NERISSA TRIDAWN is magic attack monster, rated 100 BCR and with a manna rating or 9. The monster has a health rating of 9 and speed of 2. Special monster has no ability but I wonder what makes the monster so powerful.

The Rueset Effect

I was happy with my strategy until I discovered it really did not sit well with the battle ruleset. Actually, since you cannot predict which monsters your enemy would field, you only try to make your team quite stronger. The combo of NERISSA TRIDAWN and MERDAALI GUARDIAN has always been a good bet for me especially for battles with lower manna cap like I had.

Once the monsters appeared, I discovered that I made a grave error and that my enemy team took advantage of the health of my super NERISSA TRIDAWN to boost their low ranking health. Below are tables showing the original health Stats of all the monsters in battle compared to what the ruleset adjusted and what the summoner ability placed the health stats at.

My Monsters' Health Stats Adjustments

Merdaali Guardian399

Total Health stats of all my monsters: 18

Enemy Monsters' Health Stats Adjustments

MonsterOriginal Manna capRuleset MannacapSummoner
Flame Monkey2910
Fineas Rage8910
Radiated Scorcher2910
Chaos Agent1910
Xenith Archer2910

Total Health stats of all enemy monsters: 50

Since NERISSA TRIDAWN had the highest health stats, all other monsters (friendly and enemy) had their health stats adjusted as the battle ruleset defines. At this point, I knew I was losing out. Comparing my total health stats of 18 to the total health stats of the enemy monsters being 50. That was a big gap to bridge.

I only depended on the abilities of the monsters to do the magic but that was not sufficient to undo the health booster I gave to the low rated enemy monsters that are ordinarily a no match for my NERISSA TRIDAWN in company of MERDAALI GUARDIAN with the tank heal ability.

The Battle Experience

The battle lasted for 6 rounds and that was very unexpected. However, that shows that if not for the health booster the enemy monsters received, my team would have had a filled day. See screenshots of the battles during the rounds.

Ordinarily, the first monster in the enemy's team would have gone down at the first strike from NERISSA TRIDAWN. The health boost from the Equalizer ruleset made it stay to the end of the battle.

We lost NERISSA TRIDAWN at the third round and MERDAALI GUARDIAN had to take the jabs all alone through the next three rounds.

My strategy was a good one but a poor fit for the battle ruleset. If I have to get this ruleset for a battle, then I will have to go for low health stat monsters that perhaps would get boosted by the enemy monster's top healthy monster.

I lost but I earned the big lessons. I still see it as a win.
