Splinterlands Weekly Challenge | Life Sapper

I'll admit I don't use the Life Sapper much. I guess it's mostly useful in the Equalizer ruleset, where all monsters have the same amount of health. But even then, I don't I really use it I think (is there anywhere I can check that by the way, like a card usage rating?)

According to the Splinterlands lore, Life sappers are some sort of undead ghost-like entities, which are half phantom, half man or something. They're apparently also very unpleasant to be around, as they will suck the life force out of you by simply being in your proximity. Here's an excerpt:

Life sappers are in between life and death. One side of their body is ghostly while the other is alive and well. They are neither fully living nor dead. They feed off the energies around them, and simply being within view of a Life Sapper will make you feel sick and weak.

This is not gonna be easy, but somehow I'll find a way to incorporate this.. entity into my team.

Ruleset, analysis and battle

Uh oh! Only 13 Mana, Keep Your Distance and Noxious Fumes. This is gonna be a tight one.

A good idea in situations like this is to use monsters with as much health as possible, and preferably also self-healing. Other life gaining abilities like life leech also fits in well. Plus affliction, to stop the opponent from healing. With only 13 mana, however, I'll have to do without the latter this time.

Team lineup:
  • Summoner: Thaddius Brood (lvl6)
  • Pos 1: Gelatinous Cube (lvl 6)
  • Pos 2: Life Sapper (lvl 6)
Strategy:
  • Thaddius will nerf one of the two possible types of attacks and reduce their health so that they'll die from the poison even faster.
  • The Cube soaks up poison and enemy damage that (hopefully) will be too low to kill it, all the while self healing.
  • The Life Sapper in the back is the only damage dealing monster on the team, and will hopefully stay alive for at least a couple of turns to do some damage, while stealing some life in the process.

The Life Sapper did do one rounds' worth of damage and some life steal, but in the end it made no difference to the outome. The high health and self heal of the cube saved the day once again, as the enemy team perished by poison.

So I guess I'm still unsure in which types of lineups it makes sense to use this card.. Still leaning towards the Equalizer ruleset.

If you made it all the way down here, thanks for reading! Hope you found it interesting or somehow useful.

I like the Life Sapper for Blast rulesets as well as Equaliser. The life leech ability is madness when it gets blast & Equaliser rulesets.
