Splinterlands Weekly Challenge | River Nymph

She's beautiful, cleanses your infections and makes you go faster. The River Nymph is excellent support for any team requiring some extra attention and care.

Now this is definitely a card I like. She's very versatile as she can be used in many different types of teams. I especially like her Amplify ability, which makes certain "backfire"-abilities deal double damage for any monster on your team that has them.

In the Lore, she's described as an exotic creation and a rare sight in the world.

River Nymphs inhabit the rivers of the Splinterlands. Shy and reclusive, they usually remain hidden beneath the water's surface. However, they have a strong respect for life, and they have been known to aid those in need. They are also fiercely protective of their homes and will defend it if it is threatened.

She definitely reminds me of my better half.. Perhaps that's why I like this character so much. That must be it, at least partly.

Ruleset, analysis and battle

A 26 Mana Battle, with rulesets Close Range and Weak Magic.

The combination of these two rulesets actually make Magic attack monsters and Ranged attack monsters almost completely equal. Magic attacks cannot ignore armor and Ranged monsters can attack from the first position. Only advantage Magic attacks still have, is the ability to always hit (unless attacking a monster with Phase of course).

Given the debuffs of magic this round, we'll gamble that our opponent will skip out on magic attack monsters, and put together a fast team, so that they'll hopefully miss us a lot.

Team lineup:
  • Summoner: Kelya Frendul (MAX)
  • Pos 1: Diemonshark (MAX)
  • Pos 2: Kulu Swimhunter (MAX)
  • Pos 3: Merdaali Guardian (MAX)
  • Pos 4: River Nymph (MAX)
  • Pos 5: Pelacor Bandit (MAX)
  • Pos 6: Torrent Fiend (Lvl 3)
Strategy:
  • Kelya boosts all our monsters with 1 extra Speed and Armor.
  • The Diemonshark is our tank. It has decent health and a massive amount of armor compared to its mana cost, which will serve us well in a match where magic attacks cannot penetrate armor. In addition to being quite fast already, it has both Retaliate, Trample and Enrage. Especially interesting is the last one, as its speed and damage will be boosted to ridiculous levels once it takes damage.
  • Since ranged attack monsters can attack from 1st position, we'll try to put our Kulu Swimhunter in position 2. It has a very high ranged attack (4) and is also very fast, so it should definitely be able to land some blows.
  • The Merdaali Guardian will keep an eye on the health and shield of our tank, with her Tank Heal and Repair abilities. She's also got Strengthen, which will boost our entire team with an additional health point.
  • The River Nymph is here to provide Cleanse and Swiftness, making our monsters even faster while making sure our tank stays healthy. She also has Amplify, but as none of our monsters have any of the relevant abilities, this ability goes to waste this round unfortunately.
  • A Pelacor Bandit, simply to provide some strong and fast melee attacks to opponents rear line.
  • And finally, the Torrent Fiend, to protect us from the same type of attacks.

Water monsters, attack!

Our tank did an amazing job. In such a battle, combining the Diemonshark with the Merdaali Guardian is indeed a powerful combination. Backed up by the River Nymph it becomes even deadlier.

As the Guardian was able to constantly heal both the health and armor of our Diemonshark, the opponent was never able to pin it down, thus securing our victory.

Thank you for visiting. I hope you found this interesting, entertaining or somewhat useful. I've been a big fan of playing the water splinter since Beta, so this weeks' challenge was particularly refreshing.

Until next week, friends.
