Splinterlands Weekly Challenge | Temporal Master

I'd argue that the Temporal Master from the Life Splinter is a pretty versatile card. He's got a low mana cost and a very strong 6 damage magic attack (though he is only able to attack every other round because of his particular abilities – more on those in the Strategy section).

I like this card, both from its utility and visual appearance. This guys seems to be pretty important, or at the very least powerful. In the Lore, they are described as masters that was betrayed by the great council in their order;

The horologe node is the first focus. The annulus scepter the second. But to ascend to the highest levels of the craft the anachron time mage must abandon talismans and operate by mind alone. For the rare adept blessed by visions of the turning wheel they can shift the flow of siphilum in time's flow by sheer force of will.

It is these Temporal Masters that advised the great council until the highest in their order, the High Magus Obin Anvaras, betrayed them. Those that remain hunger for a chance to reknit time and erase the chaos heresy that brought the Legion to the Splinterlands.

It would appear they're out for revenge against the corruption of the Chaos Legion. And they can actually "reknit time"... Glad I'm not on these guys' bad side.

Ruleset, analysis and battle

30 Mana battle with rulesets Reverse speed and Keep Your Distance. Perfect.

Since melee monsters are out of the question, and there are more slow magic attack monsters than there are ranged attack monsters, anti-magic is probably a good strategy here. I'll also try to use both ragned and magic attacks in my team, as the opponent is unlikely to be able to effectively defend against both.

Team lineup:
  • Summoner: Grandmaster Rathe (lvl 3)
  • Pos 1: Pelacor Conjurer (lvl 8)
  • Pos 2: Temporal Master (lvl 5)
  • Pos 3: Dax Paragon (lvl 5)
  • Pos 4: Adelade Brightwing (lvl 3)
  • Pos 5: Prismologist (lvl 4)
  • Pos 6: Halfling Alchemist (lvl 1)
Strategy:
  • I take a gamble that opponent will focus on magic attacks, and select Grandmaster Rathe for my summoner. In addition to adding +1 Armor to all my monsters, he also gives them all Void Armor and Amplify abilities. Perfect for an anti-magic team.
  • The Pelacor Conjurer will serve as a passive tank, while reflecting all magic attacks (with Amplify bonus damage).
  • Temporal Master in pos 2, mainly because of its cheap mana cost, and its strong magic attack every other round because of its Recharge ability. Hopefully the Conjurer in the front will survive long enough for him to attack at least once..
  • Then Dax Paragon for his Affliction ability and slow speed (Honestly I also chose him because of Amplify, as I forgot this ability was already being provided by my summoner)
  • Adelade Brightwing is mainly there to repair the Conjurers' armor and to Resurrect him when/if he dies. Though I won't complain about her slow speed and decent magic attack either.
  • Prismologist to fan out the damage type in my team to also entail ranged attacks. Her ranged attack is very strong, and she also has Blast, so she should be able to do some nice damage, especially with her slow speed being an advantage in this ruleset.
  • And at last, the Halfling Alchemist with it's 1 speed and Halving ability. He will be so fast this battle that he's very unlikely to miss, and if he's able to Halve opponents monsters' damage in addition, it can't hurt.

It is time for battle:

My team worked pretty much as intended. I did have some trouble killing off opponents' Lord Arianthus, but once I had him taken out, it went the right way... even if it looked pretty bleek there for a while, and the fact that I just barely won the battle. It appears my Halfling Alchemist actually tipped the scales of this battle. That's not an everyday occurence. Pretty cool.

Thank you for stopping by! I started doing these weekly challenges some weeks ago, to impose a bare minimum posting-requirement for myself, as I haven't been too consistent in my posting in the past. I'd honestly like to post more often than once a week, but my life is currently just way too chaotic, so at the moment I'm just really happy to have been able to keep this up (for almost two months now actually).

I've also been receiving generous upvotes, not just from the Splinterlands curation team, but from the community as well, which I'm really proud of and definitely don't take for granted. It also tells me I must be doing something right in these posts, which is really cool. Most importantly though, I simply enjoy making them.

Side-note; Use of SplinterGlossary/LeoGlossary links

You may have noticed that most of the Splinterlands terms I use in these articles are also links that point to entries in the @leoglossary project. You can read more about this exciting project in their latest official update, which should also give you a better understanding of why I'm putting these links in my Splinterlands articles (and why you should consider doing the same).
