Mindblast Battle Report : No More Magic

NoMoreMagic.jpg

Wands Out rule in battle is more like a measure of magic attack type monsters to which of them takes the top. With all magic-type monsters on the battlefield, we will see who has the edge to dominate in the world of magic users. Magic Monsters has been one of my favorite monsters to use since its damage mostly ignored armor and dealt directly to health. That is why magic dealing is one of the most powerful attack types in Splinterlands.

With only magic-type monsters available for selection, I am sure that we will see some advantage or disadvantage skills coming from Summoner itself or monsters. For me, I typically use boosting of magic attacks since I am more into offensive type rather than defensive. I focus more on the attack advantage so that winning possibilities would be high if you dealt more damage than your opponent. It is more striking first rather than waiting for the attack and retaliating later.

Now below is my battle report for the Wands Out ruleset.

RULESET

Mana Cap52image.png
Taking SidesNuetral monsters may not be used in battles
Even StevensOnly monsters with even mana costs may be used in battles

Looking at the final ruleset we can see that only Water and Earth are available for use. And I see that both Water and Earth have a good selection of magic-type monsters. If I go for an ordinary battle I will then go for Water but if it's a brawl I then go for Earth because I see that they are a much more powerful roster in such kind of battle scenario. As for Summoners, for Water type, I can see that Bortus has the better ftting because of its -1 Magic attack to opponent monsters which is a big deal to decrease their damage to you. For Earth, we can see that it does the opposite, it gives +1 Magic attack to all friendly monsters which makes all your magic monster units more powerful and lethal.

Now, it's up to the player to choose since these two Summoners have the advantage in such a battle from my perspective. With a mana cap of 52, you have the option to select powerful monsters effectively. But since it's all magic-type monsters, you might as well maximize your selection to your top magic attack welders. You may have the option to maximize the mana cap based on your selected monster but still, you can have it not fully maximized if you think you have fully formed a very effective team to counter the other team in the battlefield.

Another thing in this battle set is there will be no neutral units to be used, this will limit the chance of the players to magic monster types for you can only select a pure element monster type. It will be another puzzle for every player for such kind of additional rules in the battle. Another one is that monsters you can use are only at even mana cost, I believe that a huge cut of monster selection is at the disposal of players. We can say, we rely on tactics, strategies, and experience to be able to overcome such kind of conditions in battle.

MATCHUP

In this battle, we can see a matchup between me and my opponent. I have the advantage of Level since I'm at Level 3 and my opponent is at Level 2. This helps me give the edge to have a better set of monsters but the difference will not be that big because it's only a one-level gap but it really helps sometimes. In terms of Summoner skills, I have equipped with a -1 magic attack to all opponents which deducts all magic monsters to 1 attack damage. Now, it's an additional advantage for me to cast this debuff towards all enemy monsters. On the other hand, his Summoner has 2 active sets of skills and he has -1 speed and also an additional use of gladiator unit.

We may see that I have the advantage towards attack but all my monster speed will be down by 1. Let's see if I manage to overcome some little odds in this battle.

LINEUP : MINE

Bortus-1 Magic attack

Djinn OslannusVoid
Phantom of the AbyssFlying,Dodge
Riverboard CaptainBlast
Sea GenieFlying
River NymphCleanse
Ice PixieFlying

In my lineup, I chose Bortus to be my Summoner so I could debuff all the magic attack monsters of my opponent. And now for my monsters, I choose Djinn Oslannus as my frontman, since it is equipped with anti-magic and has a life point of 10. With its active skill, it helps reduce magic attack damage done by enemies to him. And with life points of 10, I'm sure that he can withstand the battle and stay until late rounds if in case he is eliminated in battle.

For the second position, there is Phantom of the Abyss which would serve as a backup just in case my frontline falls. It has an evading skill which helps him evade attacks as well. Both Djinn Oshannus and Phantom of the Abyss have high-speed attacks which gives the two to attack first in battle. Now for my third position, is Riverboat Captain which can cause splash damage whenever an area is hit. He can deliver good damage to opponents and at the same he is well-protected by semi-tanks in front of him.

Sea Genie on fourth position since it has 2 damage but is a bit slow attacker. And for fifth position River Nymph which can serve as a support towards my first position with its Cleanse spell. This is my first position to stay healthy in battle if there are negative spells, it will be easily be Cleanse.

On last position would be Ice Pixie, it has no special attack or something, the same as Sea Genie. But since it has a better attack there is no other option on my side to choose any monster from. Then Ice Pixie would be the one to fill the team roster.

LINEUP : OPPONENT

SummonerActive SKill in BattleImage
Lobb Lowland-1 Speed, Allows additional gladiator
MonsterActive Skill in BattleImage
Quora TowerheadBloodlust, Heal
Queen MyceliaProtect
Madcap MagusScattershot,Life Leach
Suidae ShamanRecharge

Goblin PsychicTank Heal

For my opponent's lineup, I see that he is using Lobb Lowland as its Summoner since he has an interest in using a Gladiator in our match. I am sure, he will use the overpowered Quora Towerhead as his priority in the lineup. He is also probably concerned about my speed, which is why I see that it will fully serve as a dual purpose for him.

Now in his first position, I did not make a mistake, he is using Quora Towerhead as a protector of his team. We can see that Quora has both Bloodlust and Heal which makes her a more deadly monster opponent when engaged in battle. She can easily boost up her stats with every damage she deals successfully which makes her more dangerous. And it would not be easy to eliminate her because of her healing capability. Now, I begin to have a headache if I successfully pull it off or not.

On the second position, I see that she is using Queen Mycelia which is a powerful monster add-on on the lineup. With its boost of armor, but in this case, it would not be of total use because armor are ignored against magic attack if no anti-magic skill or spell. But I didn't see this wasted because he has a decent speed of attack which is also a good stat for her.

Madcap Magnus on the third position as it can be an assassin for his team, targeting random units while leaching life points, making it invincible if not stopped in early rounds. On fourth position Suidae Shaman is stepping up for it since I see him as a fair monster with a good magic attack and speed. This monster can be very deadly in every x3 rounds since it helps triple its attack from 2 to 6, which I see it more threatening to my units.

I also see Sporcerer in its fifth position, but I don't see it very useful on his skill Rust since I have no armor active on all my units. But who knows he has something in mind for it, and that is why he adds it to his team. And lastly, a Goblin Phychic which I see as a backup of Quora, to ensure that it remains in battle for a longer period of time.

BATTLE ROUNDS

image.png

At the start of Round 1, my Summoner immediately cast -1 magic to all enemy monsters, leaving all attacks to 1, which helps it to my advantage. But after that, his Summoner takes a retaliation by decreasing all attack speed of my monsters. I may have a little slower monster but I feel a bit safe since all of them are 1. So I think survival is a big point for my team, that it can hold on until the very end of the battle.

Queen Mycelia cast additional armor and Sporcerer decreased armor as well. But thankfully, I have no armor boosts or any armor for all my units. My Djinn frontline tried to engage against Quora but it was no use because the damage dealt automatically being healed. And then Quora proceeded with its melee attack, and only melee attacks can damage my Djinn. It received a couple of 1 damage but it reduced to 0 with the help of Void skill.

My monsters are starting to gang up Quora, but this monster cannot be defeated easily. But thankfully, I managed to eliminate it in Round 2. Which I see now that the opponent is vulnerable. In round 3,.Queen Mycelia was slain which prompted its given armor to be removed instantly. Now with less protection one by one, its monsters are eliminated and none on my side was eliminated.

In round 3, we can see that my Djinn is still holding the frontline, it appears that its high life now at 4 but still buying something to protect its ally until the very end. His healer really keeps the battle longer but even the high-life Suidae Shaman wasn't able to sustain the damages take.

With Suidae Shaman taken out of the picture, I eliminated easily both Sporcerer and Goblin Psychic without any hassle. My team was still standing until the very end of the battle which was a very good game for me which resulted in a victory.

MY ANALYSIS

In the matchup I have the upper hand because I was able to put a negative spell on all his units, reducing its magic damage. At the same time, I received only slower speed from the enemy Summoner which is a great advantage for me since it's just a little effect for me. My frontline monster was able to hold the position and I see that enemy monsters having a hard time finishing it off because of its Void skill plus reduced damage.

Even if he has both Quora and Goblic Psychic for healing abilities, still it doesn't work at all as I can see it because only melee damage from Quora can penetrate me because all of its magic attacks are reduced to one which is very effective again Void skill.

I didn't say that my team is perfect or something, but I see that sometimes luck plays a great role in every battle in Splinterlands because we didn't know what would be the team composition of your opponent and what monsters and summoners they would be playing with.
