My Thoughts About Raising A Governance Proposal On Splinterlands

I’m raising a proposal on Splinterlands, that’s right, anyone can raise a proposal and if it’s good enough and garners enough support, the proposal will be implemented, how cool is that? Imagine being able to raise a valuable suggestion to improve something about your favorite video game and if the community likes it enough, the suggestion gets implemented, I’m sure many will like the sound of that.

I can’t count the amount of times I’ve had a cool idea while playing a video game but the idea ended in my head, because, uhm, who cares? Nobody. But on Splinterlands, the proposal system makes a huge difference, everyone can have a say, and if it’s good enough, they get to see their suggestions come to live, how cool. Another cool thing is that it’s the community that decides through votes not the development team.

Just the other day, a community member created a proposal to ban bots on Modern league. I can categorically tell you that I also had the idea because Bots were becoming a menace to the ranked battles and I’d already had it to the brim with them, if you were not using a bot you were almost as good as dead in most battles, it was even worse when you’re a mid to beginner level player.

And so it happened that I wasn’t the only Bot frustrated player, the community rallied hard behind the proposal and in no time, measures were put in place and Bots were relegated to only the Wild battle ranked format. This was so cool to see in action. I could imagine how impossible it would have been if the problem was on other generic video games, either no one would care to listen or….no one would care.

Another interesting thing is that any changes to the system by the dev team also have to go through a proposal and garner enough community support to be implemented, so the dev team can’t just enact changes when and how they like, the community has to deliberate on it and vote before it’s passed, it’s one crazy cool heck of a system if you ask me.

So, back to my proposal. I want to raise a proposal to implement Gladius cards in Modern format battles for some DEC fee that will be burnt. It’s simple, if you want to use any GLADIUS card that you’d normally use in Brawls, it will cost some amount of DEC that will be automatically deducted from your account. How cool will that be?

It is no news that those Gladius cards are deadly in battle especially those with the bloodlust ability and it’s just always fun watching them go in action, so since they are cards with extreme abilities that have been purposefully relegated to Brawls, why not turn them into mercenaries in ranked battles for those who have them to use them at a fee that benefits them and the entire economy?

Okay so to be honest, I’m really just sharing my thoughts, the Gladius cards were probably relegated to Brawls for a reason and such change could lead to some unwanted results by giving certain people unfair advantage although I think it will make more people participate in brawls since it is the only way to get merits which is the only way to get those cards, no external market.

Moreover proposals are not free so people won’t just be pulling proposals out of their noses, they cost 100k DEC which is about $100 ideally. With this check, anyone that wants to make a proposal will have to come correct. So you have to give props to community members who have sacrificed 100k DEC in the past to raise a proposal because they took a risk which may or may not have been implemented, they took one for the community and for the changes we enjoy today, many thanks to them for helping shape the ecosystem we enjoy today.

I wouldn't be a fan of these cards entering battles to be honest. Everyone keeps trying to "Sink" everything and all they really are doing is putting up paywall after paywall to try and bring value back to a VERY over inflated DEC when it should have been fixed THEN now now. Now we have land coming up so there's legit no reason to put more DEC sinks in place.

It interesting to see how close that anti bot measure was to failing I'd be curious if that would still be the case. Wonder if it was the bot people all downvoting lol

Well you’re right sort of. But then again, anymore DEC sink will only contribute to making DEC go over the peg let’s say Lands sink enough DEC, and this is a good thing because the over flow goes to give SPS value according to how the system works.

Using them Gladius cards in ranked battles just adds an interesting twist. At least that’s what I think.

Lol bot users are certainly incentivized to downvote the proposal lol
