Rebellion's Rise and the Value of Old Cards - Splinterlands

Hi Splinterfam!Everyone is excited about the up coming Rebellion card edition, but before I could fully dive into that excitement myself, there was something I needed to address. In the world of trading card games, what do you do when new editions are on the horizon? Do you cast aside your older edition cards, or do you treasure them?

Holding on to the past?

Given my collection of Alpha, Beta, and Untamed card editions, I've been pondering this. Especially since I've noticed a surge in sellers ever since Rebellion was announced. Could it be that players are selling off old editions to gear up for the new one? Or is this just the usual ebb and flow of the market?"

Even after being involved in Splinterlands since it’s inception, I’m still quite new to the trading card game concept compared to many players in this community who are experts in Magic The Gathering and have been in the trading card game business for eons, I want to believe that older edition cards should have abilities or parks that makes holding them worth it.

I want to believe that new cards should not make older cards irrelevant or in other words, useless,….I had these thoughts going on in my head until I watched the last Town Hall meeting and it was addressed.

Yes, the questions concerning whether or not old cards will be relevant, or if old cards would retain their value were addressed. Older edition cards are meant to retain their value and relevance, even though new editions have newer and perhaps better abilities, so players or card holders are incentivized to still hold older card editions or even buy them due to their rarity, ability and for the perks that come with being an old card.

There’s no way the game will be set up to make older cards irrelevant as new editions come out and be successful with it, because if not, almost everyone will dump their old editions immediately new editions are announced which wouldn’t make sense.

The reason why these questions were on my mind was because up until now, there haven’t been majorly any perks for holding old edition cards, people that hold them presently are either fond of them because they’ve mastered their positioning or are purely speculating on them, or because they just haven’t found better replacement for them but this is unsustainable.

For me, I hold most old edition cards because I’m fond of them and mastered their uses in battle while I also speculate on others, certainly I have new edition cards too but as we will have it they are about to become old as well, hence my need for clarity in this matter.

Old Cards: Value Beyond The Past

However, after been clarified all my excitement is bursting full on, we don’t have dynamic NFTs yet, but the latest gamifications are also badass, but we won’t be talking about that in this post. Let’s talk about the plans for old cards to retain their value and relevance. It all starts with Lands, the way Lands will be set up will require card staking, different cards based on their collection power will offer different staking multipliers.

Hence, this is where old edition cards come in, old edition cards will have higher multipliers when staking them on Land and the multipliers determine how resources are allocated. So if you want to have the lions share of the resources allocated to you, you already know what to do, one thing is for sure, this is not the time to dump the old edition cards for new ones but what do I know.

Affiliate Links

So I’m excited about Rebellion, another thing you have to know is that Rebellion packs would be bought with DEC and Credits and I think there’s a certain percentage of share you get when people use your affiliate link to purchase packs through credits, it happened with other editions, I once earned 100$ in credit when someone used my affiliate link to sign up and bought packs with credits.

People will be looking to get into the game afresh as Rebellion is like giving people a fresh start into Splinterlands, you might not bag a whale but you could get a couple of average sized investors if you’re lucky so why not share your link as much as you can and spread the word, share the eye popping art works, get the conversation going! Splinterlands is the best Trading Card Game on blockchain ever!!!

Together we rise!!!!!! Lfg!!!!!!
