If you've read the introduction before skip to the action!

Introduction - I started playing this game on January 7th, 2022 and it's been an amazing experience so far. I've been a gamer all my life and a huge passion of mine is to always be the best I can at whatever game I'm playing.

Normally, I struggle with the idea that gaming is mostly a waste of time. It's fun of course and entertaining but at the end of the day, I'd be better off practicing my Japanese, learning to code or even working in the garden. The kind of thing that makes you feel like you're accomplishing something useful and being productive.

Splinterlands has changed that mindset for me. For the first time, I feel like being me, and doing what I do best as a gamer, might actually be the best use of my time. The more I learn about this game, the more time I spend on it, the more rewarding it seems to be.

My long term goal is to build a collection of cards that can play in Diamond League for Ranked play and be competitive in Modern Tournaments up to the Silver league level. The plan from here on out is to invest as little of my own money as possible while growing my card collection from earning in game, playing in tournaments, and blogging about the whole experience.

That way, it's more of a challenge where I can track my progress and have fun with it and hopefully have an incredible journey along the way. Will it be possible? How long will it take? Can someone actually make a living as a "competitive" Splinterlands player starting from my position?

That's what I want to find out and I want you to be there with me to see if we can make this dream come true! If that's something you believe in, I'd love it if you followed my blog. The plan is to put out a quality post every other day (give or take) going over tournaments I played in, battle reports, changes in the accounts value, card purchases, or whatever crosses my mind.

Let's get into it.

I'm getting pretty comfortable with these rules and this was another good round of practice. It seems like as long as legendary cards aren't allowed and I only have to worry about two sets I can usually put together a solid lineup.

It's when I have to choose from multiple sets that include alpha, beta, promotional, rewards, etc where there's just so many cards I forget about something or overlook things and get overwhelmed with all the possible options.

It doesn't help that I don't own any of those cards and don't play with them very often either but this is a tournament I know well so let's go over the rentals.

A staple card at this point whenever the Untamed set is involved. 4 Archery damage at 5 speed is bringing some much needed, non magic damage to the Earth team.

One of the higher priority cards on my "Want to own" list.

Any time I can get magic damage for two mana I'm interested. The monster itself isn't so special but it's almost never a bad choice if you only have two mana left and one spot open.

I really love this card! The arts really cool and it matches the way the monster "fights" in game. Probably my highest priority pickup when I can afford to buy one as it rarely ever let's me down.

I see Amari a lot and I know they're a good player so I always want to do my best to win an important match.

I felt good about the team I submitted, since Water wasn't banned the Sporcerer could remove 2 armor from Kelya's squad and that would be really important so Mitica Head Hunter's 4 damage wouldn't be wasted hitting armor. I also have Unicorn Mustang with it's Void ability to protect against any magic heavy teams.

The problem is, Amari went all in on damage and none of their monsters have any armor so I'm actually outgunned here and another important thing to note is that Goblin Psychic is super slow at 1 speed.

The reason that's important is because Amari has the damage to kill my Unicorn Mustang before it has a chance to get healed while I won't kill his Slipspawn efficiently. I'm in a tough spot and will need some luck to win this one.

My Unicorn Mustang has a 10% chance to dodge Grund and it freaking does! That literally took us from what should have been a guaranteed loss to having a chance. Then my Regal Peryton gets a dodge of it's own, sealing the win.

What's the saying? It's better to be lucky than good? Yeah...

With Back to Basics and Even Stevens I settled on this death team. Magic is really strong in this mode and here you see both ways to approach it by buffing magic with Obsidian or Nerfing magic with Thaddius Brood. I preferred the death team as you also get a -1 health effect as well.

Also, look at the tanks. Windeku has 9 health for 6 mana and Elven Defender will only have 7 after Thaddius' debuff kicks in for 8 mana. This, along with the 2 mana Darkest Mage allows me to get some extra fire power from Supply Runner.

Here's an example of why I love War Chaang so much. He's 1 mana cheaper than Diemonshark but with the close range ruleset he's getting an extra ranged attack in every turn. The crazy thing is, I didn't get a single retaliate in 3 tries so this could have been even better.

Any time you can sneak a repair into your lineup with Kelya you can catch your opponent off guard and in this case, 1 armor is all War Chaang needs to never die to Diemonshark.

Given that I'm only winning 55 DEC once you subtract the entry fee for this tournament it's not going to move the needle much on my accounts overall value but as I've said before, it's more about the practice I get from playing the ruleset and building experience.

I also won 500 DEC in the YGG SPL WEEKEND CHALLENGE WEEK 7 Tournament which was nice and even though my investment is down overall, I just have to keep adding value every time I can and eventually I will get ahead!

There is a new round of Kobold Mining and Bronze Blunderbuss Splinterlands sponspored tournaments starting up and I'm really looking forward to those so stay tuned for the results and wish me luck!
