Undefeated Tournament Win in Quick Match Modern Format!

These little quick match tournaments are pretty nice. All you have to do is pay the entry fee and wait till it fills up which usually doesn't take very long. When it does fill, you get a notification and then you have 24 hours to enter 7 lineups as you play every other person in the tournament once.

They don't pay out a lot but I've been wanting to branch out more from just the Chaos Legion tournies I usually play. The Modern format is especially important going forward because it seems most of the good tournaments will be Modern so it's not just about what I can win in this but experience gained with the Modern Format. As a newer player with mostly Chaos Legion cards, I have to figure out what works and what doesn't through trial and error.

Also, if it's not a card from Chaos Legion, I'm renting it for the tournament.

Before we get into the games, the Splinterlands team seems to have created a little mini game that involves these types of tournaments here

From the looks of it, you pick which side you want to reperesent in either Splinterlands or Chaos Legion. Because I picked Splinterlands and won the tourny, I earned 4 points for Team Splinterlands and it looks like at the end of the season there will be some extra prizes based on which side earns the most points and you get some % of that based on the points you contributed.

A nice little touch to spice things up and make tournaments a little more interesting.

Now let's get into a battle.

This is a powerful team that's worked out really well for me. The Unicorn Mustang gives you a Void tank that shores up any problems you would normally have with Magic heavy teams like the one I'm facing. Thorns from Mylor Crowley's summoner power makes you strong against Melee like the opponents Grund.

Mitica Headhunter, Jarx, and Beatrix add up to a lot of ranged firepower while still having some magic and a Heal from Goblin Pychic and Taunt from Slipspawn.

Grund just melts, our damage output is overwhelming his double healer set up while my Mustang stays alive. That Centauri Mage with return fire seems like a nice card too but since my opponent didn't have any other damage that targeted my back line it wasn't too threatening but it's still something I have to be aware of going forward.

When I submitted this team I wasn't sure if it would be better than the Life team I was also considering. With no magic, sneak, or snipe, General Sloan's archers can go crazy and my opponent landed on something fairly similar to what I was thinking of playing myself.

However, with no magic, Mycelic Infantry is a beast and I think ultimately having a front liner with the Shield ability and back up tank in Grund is what made the difference.

You can tell this Life team has some oomph behind it by how fast Mycelic Infantry dies even with the shield but I think my opponent needed a second tank to hold the frontline longer and they didn't get a ton of value out of the scavo repair.

This ended up being a pretty friendly tournament for Ranged monsters as the first two battles had no Sneak or Snipe and this one is no melee with close ranged! I figure you might be tired of Earth battles so here's a Water vs Water matchup!

I'm not a fan of playing Wave Brood, or any taunt monster for that matter in the tank position. Taunts seem to do best either in the 2nd position or very back. That way you split the enemy teams damage up where the front position and possibly second position (if they have a reach monster there) attack your tank while everyone else has to attack Wave Brood in the back.

As I've mentioned in the earlier battles, having a second tank in the gelatinous cube once again seems to be the biggest difference maker.

For 8 mana my opponent got Merdaali Guardian and Venari Wavesmith where I got the cube for 6 who ended up scavenging a good amount of life this game.

A lot of times in tournaments like this it comes down to just being slightly more efficient / optimal than your opponent and Axemaster is a must have card.

Well, that'll do it for this recap, thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed the battles. If you like content like this feel free to follow as I'm always doing recaps on the tournaments I play and look to branch out to some other things soon as well!
