A Life Splinter magic deck?
A Life Splinter magic deck?

Can the Life Splinter field a potent magic deck?
This is mostly for beginners, but I've tried to make it fun for everyone.
Can you make a Life Splinter magic deck?
Can a Life Splinter magic deck compete?
Hey there!
I feel like my first post should be an 'intro post', but making this was so much more fun! Maybe I'll do an intro post later, but for now...
Can the Life Splinter field a potent magic deck?
For some reason I didn't really think so. Sure, there are some magic dealers in Life, but the +1 magic from Alric, the Water summoner, makes Water the magic bomb!

There are some ways around that of course, like with the +1 magic Dragon summoners... but all the Life Splinter summoners focus mostly on defensive qualities, like armor and shields. So, I never really thought to even attempt a magic deck with the Life Splinter.

A Thing or Two about Life & Magic
Thus starts the story, and me starting to think... it just might be possible to have some magic in my Life ;). It all started with...
The kPOW magic smackdown!
First, let's review the 'smack-down'-butt-kicking that inspired me to write this up and give the Life Splinter magick deck some attention. Now, I lost this battle in the first round, you can watch the embarrassment below...
I saw this magic deck coming, and I thought I had whipped up a clever defence against it.
I was sure the double healing from my Byzantine Kitty, the Crustacean King, and the magic reflecting Rusty Android would do the trick... But Rodney, (that's my nickname for the Rusty Android, because he reminds me of Rodney McKay from Stargate Atlantis) well, he didn't even survive the first round. It was most certainly a Rodney Mckay moment:

That did not just happen!
Oh Yes, Yes, it did!

The Battle that started it all
28 Mana Limit
Ruleset: Aim True (all melee and ranged attacks hit their target)
It was over, almost before it started.
You can watch the full embaresment here
Born of Embarrassment, a Magical Experiment
So, after getting served the business end of Life's magic wand, I thought I would try a Life Splinter magic deck experiment of my own, and see how far it could take me.
Now, with today's card prices I think it's a good idea to rent and try something out before going hog in and buying a bunch of cards. Being able to rent cards and try them out is one of the things I really like about Splinterlands. Being able to pay for the rentals with winnings is another!
PeakMonsters.com has a really cool card rental interface.
I only had to rent two cards, Light Elemental and Lunakari Mistress, as I pulled a Temple Priest from one of my previous reward chests, and Lorna Shine and I are good friends. She was one of the first cards I bought when I was testing out AtomicHub using WAX. I think I paid like 19.91 WAX (or $7.43 at the time). She is a 'must have' for any Life Splinter player.
But renting these specific cards is pretty cheap so not a huge investment. The rest of the cards are available as 'starter' cards. Renting Light Elemental and Lunakari Mistress only cost me something like 2.086 DEC.

The Experiment:
9 Points to the Tank!
If you can play the full team, that adds up to 6 Points of magic, and 3 points of melee, all directed at the tank. Lorna's Divine Shield ability makes sure that you will likely get the first round of damage in.
Not many tanks can withstand that sort of bombardment, especially 6 points of magic! So after the first round, they are likely gone, or at least super smooshy for the next round.
The extra armor from Truthspeakers Protect ability makes a big difference in rounding out the team to handle Sneak, Snipe, and Opportunity attacks too.
The 1st Test Battle
I won the first test battle, though I can't say I felt all that great about it.
The 2nd Battle Test
Again, it was a win, but I can't say I felt all that great about the line up just yet... I haven't encountered another magic deck yet, and that's going to be the true test.
The 3rd Test Battle
Then, here it was... I ran into the infamous Water Splinter magic deck... it was a practical slaughter... I WON. The third battle in a row now, and I started to think that maybe this lineup has some 'magical' staying power.
The 4th Test
The fourth win in a row now...
The 5th Test
And then... in this 14 mana battle, against yet another Water Splinter magic deck, I won AGAIN, for the fifth battle in a row!
Now, at this point, my list of played teams is going to show all these cards again, and again, and again, and these 5 win's in a row took me straight to Bronze I from low Bronze II. So I expect to encounter some serious competition playing the same cards over and over again. Let's do it anyway!
The 6th Test
Another win! The team tore through this Fire Splinter deck like it was made of paper! My 6th win in a row now!

Wrapping up
And then my win streak ended... but not because of this team, but because of the ruleset! So we can't blame it on the team!
So I went one more round, and ANOTHER WIN against the Water Splinter magic deck. Now I'm really starting to love this lineup.

I've found it pretty rare to have such 'in a row success' with a new team, and this team totally blew away my expectations! Now that's likely because it's not really 'my deck', meaning that I didn't hunt through all the cards, figure out what would work well, what didn't, lose a bunch of battles in the process, and all that stuff...
I learned it from @likeavirgin, (thanks BTW, so much fun!) and what I called the kPow magic smackdown! I'm not certain @likeavirgin made it up for the very first time... but given the name, we might assume it could have been something like that. ;_
So, I kept going, and ran into a Death Splinter deck that cleaned my clock. Maybe some more on that another time. But, it's important to know that some players, likely the best ones, pay super close attention to what you've played in the past.
If you keep spamming the same deck over and over again... you literally give your 'hand' away. Players that really know their cards and have a decent card collection, will quickly 'on the fly' build a deck to specifically kill yours. But... I was surprised it took so long for it to happen.
I doubt most players in Bronze, or even early Silver, will expect this line up, much like I didn't think it was practical for the Life Splinter to field a kPow magic team! I've put all these cards on my 'buy it when you can' list and plan to level them up to see how they play out in the higher leagues (when I eventually get there).
I hope you enjoyed the show! I had a blast putting this together!
May your life be filled with good magic!
The end.
Some Notes & Things
I did throw in some 'chicken' and 'ooze', and even a little 'battering ram' into these battles, but you can rent those for super cheap most of the time too.
a big shout out to @bulldog1205 for introducing me to Splinterlands, helping me out with some loaner cards when I first started, and an awesome Discord with a bunch of really great folks! a big thank you to the entire Splinterlands team for making such a fun, engaging, and magical game!
A Few More Things
Why I like the Life Splinter so much
The storyline is just epic, this is from the SPS (Splinter Shards) whitepaper!
"The secret contents of Gariboleus’ inscription were revealed to the Order of the Silver Shield, who shared them with the most powerful people in the Splinterlands for an undisclosed price." https://sps.splinterlands.com/
I just love the idea of the Order of the Silver Shield. I'm the one who always plays the Paladin type in role playing games... the one that's good enough with the sword, but always wanted to be a magic wielding wizard.
In a way it seems like a sort of 'metaphor' (a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.) for how life requires a constant form of productive work, just to stay alive, leaving precious little time for the fun and magic of wizarding.
If Your Wondering
@cryptokungfu, which is where all these battles were done, is my 'alt' where I plan to post some things about how to get around in crypto, specifically without all the fee's. I am also working toward the Silver League's on that account, but I plan to post mostly Splinterlands stuff here on @mortalibus... because I like to keep things seperate.
Do you believe in magic?
Keep it real, but don't forget to add a loving spponful of magic to your real life from time to time.

Speaking of community, we have many different ones here on the blockchain, devoted to all kinds of interests. Here's a link so you can check them all out – Hive Communities.
Also, we noticed that it is possible that you have used either images or copy that are not your own. As content on the Hive platform is monetised, using other people’s ideas or images could be considered as an offense and which is also viewed in a serious light on the blockchain. Here is a useful collection of resources about how plagiarism and abuse is viewed and handled on Hive.
Also since you're new, you may run into an RC (Resource Credits) error when trying to comment/post because you don't yet have enough Hive in your account yet. For assistance with a temporary delegation to get you started, be sure to check out the Gift Giver site.
Also, as this the hive can be quite confusing, the newly launched Newbies Guide is a growing repository of useful – easy to understand – posts about how the Hive ecosystem works.
