Prioritising Between Career and Relationship || Weekend Engagement #203

Hi friends, it's an amazing weekend I suppose, or haven't you started yours already? This week, I have a program to anchor, it is for teens and a spiritually inclined program. For this week, I would like to share my perspective on one of the topics by the initiator of the #weekend-engagement weekly contest, @galenkp.

Career and Relationship

I guess we all know what career is all about. A career involves our routine, what we have passion for to create a brand to render a service to earn a living from.
Whether we like it or not, a career can be built from any point of view and nurtured to the peak.

On the other hand, relationships can be viewed from different angles. There could be a relationship or intimacy between parents to their wards, or between spouses. There could also be a relationship between siblings. In light of this expository, I will be taking a look at the relationship in a family unit, which involves spouses and their children.

Prioritising Between Career and Relationship

This comes down to individual values and objectives in life. Since we all have our differences, we are most likely going to have different sides to how we handle matters that relate to careers and relationships.

My life goal is to have a united family that is bound by love and affection. Like they say, there still could be love from a distance but I think nearness is the best option. As an African man, I was raised to know that my family is all Inhabe at the end of all my walks and work in life. This is why I place a high value on my career as much as I place on my relationship with my wife, children and career. To actualize this, I have adopted the following strategies to ensure that I do not break my career because of my relationship or break my relationship because of my career.
Prioritising between career and relationship ultimately comes down to personal values and goals. Some people may prioritise their career over their relationship if they are highly ambitious and focused on achieving professional success. Others may prioritise their relationship over their career if they value love, connection, and personal fulfilment more than professional achievement.

•Time For Everything: Weekends with me are for my family. There is no matter how lucrative a job would take me out of my family space during the weekend except life is tied to it. With the help of my wife, I have structured my routines to follow a path and the home front is not in any way affected. Our lives are built from the ingredients of career and relationship, no doubt, yet when we give stipulated time for relationships to thrive and also for careers, then we can proudly say that we have lived a fulfilled life.

•Unambiguous Communication:
In some ways, career and relationship can come to a crossroad, this where open communication where simple but covenanted terms are reached to foster continuity for the people who are directly involved.
Communication in this regard refers to the ability to express one's intention to the other person. Unfortunately, when communication channels are broken, and feedback is not feasible, then one between career and relationship may be harmed or even both.
Partners should however try all best possible to discuss how to tackle relationship and career and where need be, take right steps to ensure that communication is well understood whenever it is been shared to avoid dislocation in career or relationship.

• Enjoy Both:
Remember that you can't have it all forever. Hence, enjoy your relationship while it lasts. Same goes for careers. Make the most of it while you can because the the night time comes when the eyes will become dim, it's in that time when the body is weak, family is needed, career will be less of a value.

In a nutshell, these essential aspects of life depend on each other. Hence, in weighing our options, partners can strike a balance to help build these two aspects of the individuals lives.

This is my entry to the #weekend-engagement posting topics initiated by @galenkp. Perhaps you'd like to share your thoughts, kindly read up the announcement post HERE
