Does It Make Sense to Buy Land From a Metaverse?

Facebook's change of name to Meta had brought Metaverse coins to the agenda in the past months. I got caught FOMO in that frenzy and bought small quantities of Bloktopia and Netvrk. Since then, their value has halved. However, this does not prevent me from considering an additional investment.

Are Metaverse coins or their lands good investment alternatives in the long run? Will our grandchildren condemn us in the future if we miss the train? They can say: You didn't buy real land and leave us a legacy, at least if you bought a small plot from a decent metaverse, it would be great. Or will they reproach us by saying you missed Bitcoin, missed the 100$ Hive, at least you should have bought a small island from Splinterlands? My friend's grandfather bought two, they were going to sell one and go on vacation to Mars...

Joking aside, it might be a good idea to invest in Metaverse. Of course, provided that the timing and Metaverse selection is good. Below is the Ethereum-based price chart of the Metaverse index coin.

The prices of Metaverse coins included in the index increased 5 times on Ethereum basis from July to October. In dollar terms, this increase is more than ten times. In the last two months, prices have decreased by 30%. Those who follow the crypto market closely have noticed that prices have a close relationship with the general crypto trend. On the other hand, the rise in metaverse coin prices has been much sharper compared to cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. It is easy to predict that the decline will be also sharper.

Land investors are more concerned with the long-term return on their investment rather than the daily ups and downs. So, are the prices of metaverse lands reasonable now? My great uncle was one of the leading merchants of Trabzon, the city where I was born. He used to put a chair in front of the shop he was planning to buy and sit down. Then he patiently counted the people passing by. Can this method, which was used in Turkey in the 70s, still be valid today? How many people can pass near the metaverse land to be purchased? Is something being built nearby that could generate traffic? 10 years from now, will the metaverse continue to attract people's attention?

Since there are no wormhole-like structures in the physical world yet, we have to pass in front of other places on the way to one place. However, in the digital world, we can easily teleport from one place to another. Moreover, we generally do not need to simulate a physical space in the digital environment. Digital portals such as Facebook, Google, Instagram, Amazon, Youtube, Wikipedia appear as hypertext.

In 2008, the Turkish finance company Garanti Pension bought an island in Second Life. I wonder what happened on that island after that?

Today's metaverses are as boring as Second Life. Whereas the World of Warcraft universe was great. Play-to-Earn games make more sense to me than metaverses. That's why I would prefer buying land in Splinterlands to Decentraland or Axie. With more than 300 thousand players, Splinterlands looks like it will appeal to game lovers for many years.

Of the three great metaverses of Decentraland, Axie Infinity, and Sandbox, Sandbox appeals to me the most. The impression that Sandbox leaves on me is that they are more innovative. Sandbox plans to migrate to the Polygon network in the coming months. The low costs of the Polygon network can make it appealing to a wider audience.

What kind of metaverses would attract me? The metaverses that the characters create in their minds in PKD novels seem interesting to me. I have admired both Blade Runner films and I never get bored watching Lord of The Rings movies. If the Disneyland theme park experience had been created digitally, I could visit the metaverse several times a year. I can also bear to spend time in a non-artistic setting if financial incentives are involved.

CONCLUSION

Does it make sense to buy a metaverse plot? The scarcity effect provided by the NFT infrastructure makes such an investment reasonable. I believe that luck and a lot of research are essential for a successful metaverse investment.

  • It's important to get the Metaverse plot in good timing. Technical indicators show that this is not the right time to invest in any crypto. However, this may change after a while.
  • How many people use the metaverse to invest in? Do they have high purchasing power? Could it reach a higher user count someday in the future?
  • Is the land to be purchased in a suitable location in the metaverse? Is the price reasonable?
  • Does the land have rental income?
  • Which blockchain is Metaverse built on? Is the technical infrastructure of the blockchain suitable for high user numbers?
  • Is the look and feel of the Metaverse appealing?
  • Why do people visit the Metaverse? Are there exhibitions, festivals, meetings, music concerts, e-sports activities? Is gamification used?
  • Are independent individuals or communities active in the Metaverse? Are these individuals or communities proactively innovating? Are there DAO mechanisms that will encourage these innovations?
  • Are celebrities interested in the metaverse? Could such a possibility exist in the future?

I have listed some of the questions that come to my mind above. Although metaverses are more popular nowadays, I think the Plan-to-Earn concept will be more prominent in the next months. Hive hosts many Play-to-Earn games. And in a few months, ambitious new games will be presented to users.

Bullish moves on the crypto market can create opportunities for me to buy metaverse land. Even if I can't buy a metaverse plot, I can show my potential grandchildren my Hive Punks to prove that I am a visionary man.
