There's been a lot of development in Splinterlands lately. There were Riftwatchers pack pre-sales, and all the packs were sold in a matter of minutes. The Tower Defense game packs that went on sale afterward were sold out within 12 hours. Last night, Runi NFTs were whitelisted, and the quota of 2000 was sold out in less than two minutes. But what excited me most was the Genesis League Sports announcement.

What Is Genesis League Sports?

Genesis League Sports(GLS) is a play-to-earn gaming platform for sports games and NFTs. It will work on the Hive blockchain, and 20% of its initial coins will be airdropped to Splinterlands governance token(SPS) owners.

Three different tokens will be valid in the GLS ecosystem. The first of these, GLX, will assume the governance token function. GLUSD will be the stablecoin of the ecosystem. Genesis League Game Token (GLGT) will be distributed to players as a reward. Those familiar with the Splinterlands ecosystem will more easily understand the intended functions of the tokens. GLX corresponds to SPS, GLUSD to DEC, and GLGT to Voucher.

GLS' first game will be Genesis League Soccer. The Splinterland team recently announced they would cooperate with the MLS Players Association. So the Genesis League Soccer will cover MLS league players' NFTs.

The GLS whitepaper includes the Splinterlands team's five years of experience. It is a text that people with crypto literacy can easily understand.

GLS will be governed by a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) that will give players control over many aspects of the platform. The GLX governance token, with a Maximum Supply of 2 billion, will have functions such as having a say in the DAO and providing staking returns. One hundred million GLX tokens will be airdropped to SPS holders for one year.

GLS will run as a Hive sidechain with its validators.

GLS is planned to have games that include leagues from different countries and sports branches. MSL will be a start.

The platform will have sports games such as manager, fantasy, and prediction. Athletic NFTs will play a decisive role in all competitions. NFTs can be sold and leased on the secondary market.

Genesis League Soccer (GLS)

We do not have detailed information about Genesis League Soccer, the first game of GLS, as the white paper has not been published yet. On the other hand, I had the opportunity to learn a lot about the game's planned features at the town hall yesterday.

Under the agreement with the MLS Sports Association, GLS will include NFTs of MLS players. Clubs are not involved in the deal, so they will not be included in the game in the first phase. The game is planned to be in the style of a football manager. A team will be formed using player NFTs, and one-on-one matches will be made with opponents. In addition, different types of games will be held in the future.

The whitepaper of the game is scheduled to be released on October 11. On October 18, GLS card packs will be sold. On October 25, SPS owners will receive the GLX airdrop. GLX staking operations are expected to start in November. It is estimated that the game will begin playing in March or April.

It is predicted that stadium NFTs will also have an essential place in the game.
