Towards A $100 Billion Splinterlands Economy

According to Wikipedia, 34 media franchises have generated over $10 billion in revenue. The number of media franchises that have generated revenues of over 2 billion dollars is around 100.

Pokemon is at the top of the list with 88 billion dollars. Pokemon became known as a video game, and later, its cartoons became popular. The audience learned Mickey Mouse, who came second in the animated cartoon format. Winnie the Pooh, in third place, first reached its audience as a book 100 years ago. In fourth place is Star Wars, which we know thanks to its movies.

There has yet to be a Web3-based media franchise on the list. After ten years, dozens of them will be on the list. And one of the biggest will be Splinterlands. Since Web3 infrastructures also provide digital ownership to the fan base, we may encounter volumes exceeding 100 billion dollars.

The future of Splinterlands will undoubtedly be exciting. So, how is the situation today? We are witnessing innovations expanding the Splinterlands ecosystem. The number of digital assets valid in the ecosystem is increasing daily. How big is the Splinterlands economy today? To answer this question, I will go over each digital asset.

Splintershards(SPS)

SPS, the governance and reward token of Splinterlands, has a circulation of 1.173 million. According to Splinterlands, the market cap of SPS is $35.1 million.

Dark Energy Crystals(DEC)

Dark Energy Crystals (DEC), the stablecoin of Splinterlands, costs 1 dollar for 1000 pieces. The Splinterlands site reports DEC's market cap at $5 million.

Card Market

Five card sets have been released in the Splinterlands ecosystem: Alpha, Beta, Untamed, Chaos Legion, and Rebellion. According to the Splintercards website, the card market is $49.7 million.

Splinterlands Tower Defense Nightmare Pack

The sale of Tower Defense game packages, which are still in the alpha version, ended. To date, 379.503 packages have been sold. The total market value of the packages in question is $622k.

Landplots, Totems, and SPS Validator Node License

There are 100,000 plots of land in the Splinterlands. Today, the market cap of Land plots stands at around $10,000,000.

The validator node licenses constitute a significant financial size. To date, 5008 validator node licenses have been sold. The total market value of these licenses is $3,160,048.

Totems are functional within the scope of the land project. There are four totem types: Common, rare, epic, and legendary. According to Tribaldex data, the total market value of the totems is around $1,500,000.

Actual Size Of Splinterlands Economy

When we add up the monetary amounts listed above, we reach 95.1 million dollars. In April 2023, I calculated the size of Splinterlands' digital assets as 155 million dollars. There has been a decline in card values, especially in the last eight months, but this situation is temporary.

Future of Splinterlands Economy

Prices of digital assets fluctuate dramatically. In the past, when the value of SPS approached 1 dollar, the value of the ecosystem came to 1 billion dollars. It will not be a surprise if the size of the Splinterland economy exceeds $1 billion in the coming bull market.

Recently, the Rebellion card set was launched, which brings many new features to the game. Additionally, production has finally begun in the Splinterlands lands. Beyond a dramatic drop or rise in prices, it is of particular importance that developments that create value for the ecosystem are continuous.

The first media franchise to reach $100 billion in revenue will likely emerge from the web3 ecosystems. Could the media franchise in question be Splinterlands?

Splinterlands may reach $1 billion in size in the next two years. The land project is progressing healthily. I'm also hopeful about Soulkeep, the Tower Defense game set in the Splinterlands universe. We may see the wheels turning faster as prices rise in 2024.
