My Year in Splinterlands - The Road To Rebellion

road to rebellion.jpg

Hello Splinterfans!

Another year comes to a close in Splinterlands and I thought I would take the opportunity to look back at the last year in Splinterlands and see how it has gone and how has the parth to Rebellion looked like.

Luckily I have kept doing my end of season reports so I can keep tabs of my progress and like a diary, check back on my thoughts at different times, which helps now when reviewing the year.

Diamond League

The first thing that comes to mind is that at the start of the year, my deck was able to easily reach diamond league and my ratings were much higher than they currently are. Even though I have been steadily upgrading my deck, it has been getting harder and harder to maintain my league position and get into the diamond league.

The crack started for me when I took a break for 2 weeks and then I slipped down to silver and have struggled to get back to gold ever since. I don't know if my playing has got worse or you need more meta cards, but in modern which should not have any bot players, I am struggling! If I compare to the wild league which I let the bot play when I don't have time, it does really well, so it could be the ability of human vs. bot players.

Soulbound Cards

The next thing when I look at the rewards, at the start of the year they were much higher $ value than currently because we were still getting reward cards and also chaos legion packs in the rewards.

Currently we get a lot of soulbound cards and it is unclear if these will ever be unlocked and what value they might have. We also don't currently have packs in the rewards which I think is a shame and would be good to have.

Bots

Things that have changed throughout the year which we didn't know if it would happen or not is that bots were still active back then and made up a large part of the player and rental pools.

As the year progressed, the modern league became a bot-free league and more human friendly measures were introduced. The impact of reducing bots also decimated the rental market for many and we saw the huge impact of the chaos legion card printing in the midst of a very tough bear market.

Guild Play

At the beginning of the year I was also not so long in a guild and over the course of the year I have managed to level up and collect some really pivotal glad cards that since the rebellion drop have become very important. Mostly Quora Towershead and Katrelba Gobson are my goto glad cards.

The guild play has been good fun and sometimes also playing some tough opponents! It has been a great way to engage with more players plus it has been nice to get some extra SPS earnings!

SPS

At the start of the year we were in full bear-market mode and it felt like it would continue. My SPS stack was low and so was the falling price of SPS each week. There was lots of dream talk of the fly-wheel and one day seeing $1 SPS again.

During the year, the team took lots of measures to improve the tokenomics, adding sinks in here and there and slowly but surely we started to see a turnaround in the token value. Staked SPS was introduced which was the first catalyst to moving the SPS price but there was also DEC burn events and also preparations for land.

At the start of the year I decided to up my original 10k SPS goal to 50k and then 100k! I really thought it would be good to buy up as much cheap SPS as I could. This has turned out to be a good thing as the value is nearly 2x plus we see the flywheel kicking in and the current hype surrounding gamefi in this current bull market. Where will SPS go? Who knows, but it seems to be getting more scarce by the day and holding a decent size bag makes sense.

Land

Another big even for Splinterlands this year was the launch of land. First 1.5 and then finally 2.0. The team have worked non-stop on it this year and although behind schedule, they have delivered.

Currently I am still scouting out some land so this could be a good thing to look at in 2024 when thinking about how to play Splinterlands going forward.

Rebellion

During the course of the year we had lots of promo cards drop and legendaries and new abilities introduced. This has helped spice the things up abit and keep people on their toes searching for the new meta.

The biggest thing this year though alongside the land launch has got to be the rebellion drop. The big thing about the new set apart from the new cards, gameplay and abilities dropping is also seeing the game evolve so much we saw the first rotation of cards out of modern that has also added some extra fun to the mix.

We no longer have the dominance of combos like Llama and Kron to worry about in modern or a powerful Yodin! Instead we will get a new meta that is still evolving.

I remember my first year in Splinterlands. It was a game that kept evolving and with so much happening, it was hard to keep up. Now my 2nd year is drawing to a close and it is a similar story. Although more experienced, the game still has lots going on and ways to play that keep it interesting.

Roadmap

When looking at the roadmap, I think the team can be pretty happy with all the things they managed to achieve. The highlight of the year for me was also to buy the Runi which was the first Splinterlands NFT launched on ETH. I would really love to get a Lux Vega to go with it.

I am really glad that I gave up on card rentals and instead focused on building my deck and this has been really good fun over the year.

How was your year in Splinterlands?

Thanks for reading.

I wish I had been able to buy more Rebellion packs, but that just didn't seem to be the case. I think I was able to get into Diamond once this year and I didn't last very long there if I remember right. My favorite part of the game right now is still Brawls. I find those very enjoyable even though I still kind of suck at them!

Yeah the packs seem to be holding their value well and the burn mechanism seems to be a good idea.

I like the brawls too and it can be hit or miss for me, depending on my opponent! Haha 😃

I'm still sitting on a bunch of the other packs. My hope is that those will go up in value eventually.

your sps goal was great o.o and now sps just keeps going up

land 2.0 coming ig uess most of everybody waiting for that

rebellion actually has a few nice cards but they need to fix it to be useable better on brawls and tourneys otherwise i dont think we will see as much pack buying as we should have o.o

I was happy there was no power creep with this set, it will be interesting to see how it develops! Hopefully I can join you in Diamon/champ soon! Perhaps I rent a few cards and do it! haha

It's been a lot of changes recently, and I'm hoping it will drive up prices up a bit. I love llama/quora for brawl play right now, you almost never lose. Katrelba is a nice card too. I'm still trying to figure out which new cards to buy... There are just too many too choose from!

Yeah there are lots of changes and it will take time to digest them all. I am still on the fence what rebellion cards to buy, but I think the summoners seem the best option to start with.

I'm thinking the same, but then you have to buy enough to use them in gold. It's going to be a bit of an investment.

Yeah, it would be nice to see them drop in price abit first.
