Rebellion Is Coming

Hello Splinterfans!

The new Rebellion set has been announced and although we were expecting land to launch first, it seems the Rebellion will come first and with it quite a few changes to the game and possibly the gameplay.

This is a really exciting time and I cannot wait for this release. The pre-sale is on the 18th and full sale on 5th Dec. Just in time for Christmas. We can then look to try and build our rebellion sets up and see how they compete against the current very powerful reward cards.

This will also be the first time we will see a set rotate out of the modern format. The Untamed and related cards, including the Dice cards will no longer be available in modern. This could mean some bargains available to pick up Lorna Shine or Brighton Bloom who can only be used in wild.

This will also affect a few other summoners that I use often Mother Khala and Wizard of Eastwood. There are going to disappear some pretty cool combos with also Living Lava, Unicorn Mustang and Kron the Undying disappearing. This will shake things up pretty nicely in modern.

I have been trying to get the Riftwatchers cards that I need in the last weeks and months and it seems this will be really important for playing in modern and we may see more demand and scarcity with the new set release.

Abilities

As we have seen with Riftwatchers, we will also see some new abilities with the new set. Not only that, as we have seen with a few cards, some could have dual element too but we can expect a higher mana cost for these.

These mostly seem like buffs to melee attack and will make melee attack more interesting for sure. The armored strike giving you an extra attack based on your armor could be very interesting for monsters like Legionnaire Alvar for example with his huge armor.

Corrosive Ward seems like a more mild version of the shatter ability. Flank could also be quite interesting with being able to give reach to your 2nd position monster, similar to the Possibilus the Wise summoner buff.

New Gameplay

The biggest change to the game though will be in a new game mechanic for Rebellion summoners. Once you have selected your cards, there will be another option to play once both cards have been revealed.

This is noted as a new gameplay element only for rebellion summoners and also something that could make it more difficult for bots to automate, making modern truly a human league.

I am excited to see this new gameplay in action but this is a big change to that Splinterlands could be losing the simplicity of the auto battler gameplay it is known for and I hope it doesn't change things too much. Is the trend towards moving towards a more active card playing game?

One worry is this could also make games run for much longer and require even more time for each game for players which maybe they don't have.

I am curious to see what it looks like and how it affects the game. I will be keepign an eye on the time it takes to play and I suspect that having a rebellion summoner will give some critical advantages so that this will be the main way to be played and require human interaction.

Artwork

Something else we were shown were some of the new cards and how the artwork looks. It was planned to try and make the cards also easier to read, their abilities, stats, levels etc.

I really love the artwork from the ones I have seen and can't wait to see the rest when they are released. I currently collect copies of each card at level 1, so am looking forward to adding them to my collection.

Summary

This is an exciting update to the game and I am looking forward to playing with the new cards. The market reaction seems also positive with DEC and SPS trending upward.

As was to be expected from the Splinterlands team, it is not just a card drop, there are lots of new things added to keep things exciting and this will be a great December when we can start getting these cards and playing our first games.

I think it is also a great idea from the team to add the burn mechanism to burn unpurchased packs. This is a good precautionary measure while launching these cards in a bear market and will help keep the cards value more which is good for players.

I think a time will come where players will keep upgrading their deck just to play in modern. Those cards going out of play are some of the most powerful cards out there. The design for rebellion looks beautiful as well.

I think it will be that you must play mostly rebellion or riftwatchers to play modern, possibly the dynamic of the game will change with the new tactic summoner attack ability. I too love the design tbh! I cant wait to see all the cards!!!

Especially after all the layoffs I knew they were going to go for the money grab before they gave us land. It's their typical MO. It's too bad really, they are turning a lot of people off. I am still on the fence about whether or not I am going to buy any. I'm sure I will given that I already have some assets in game, but I probably won't go as hard as I did with CL and the other releases. I'm having my doubts that SL can achieve the same hype and heights that it did during the last bull. Even if lands were to launch.

Yes, it seems the money is needed to help tide them through. I will start off slowly and see how useful the new cards are before I buy them. They seem to have the set ready very quickly, or it has been done for a while? I still don't know how land will work. Something like alien worlds on Wax?

I'm thinking they have had the set ready for a while but it really devalues all the other cards. Especially when CL still hasn't even sold out yet. From what I have heard of land on the test realm it is quite different.

I think they still need to add new cardsets to freshen up the game, but yeah, it is not good for our existing assets.

It's fantastic to hear about the upcoming Rebellion set in Splinterlands. The introduction of new abilities and gameplay mechanics promises to refresh the experience, though the shift from auto-battler might be a significant change for many players.

I'm hoping this will be the positive impetus Splinterlands has been needing, and they won't be around long as all unsold packs are to be burned! I'm excited!

Exciting for sure! And probably the right direction for Splinterlands as it grows. I'm kinda sad I've been away from the game for so long that I'm missing updates like these and my collection isn't growing either.

Is it safe to assume riftwatchers prices will go higher and untamed and dice can be obtained at a good discount?

It is some great developments for the next months and keep things fresh and exciting for players.

I think Riftwatchers will hold steady in price, some may go up if they are sought after. Untamed and Dice could be good if you are missing some for your collection, I am hoping to get a few bargains there.
