Riftwatchers - My Shopping Picks

Hello Splinterfans!

The Riftwatchers packs are burning and time is running before the new Rebellion cards are released. This means we don't have so long to get the Riftwatchers cards that we want, so I have started the preparation that I will share with you today.

OK, these are some notes of all the cards with their costs and levels. What I have also been checking is that some are quite expensive and maybe renting is more viable than buying them, but it is not the same as owning though, it is a real conundrum.

Firstly I am filtering down the Riftwatcher cards by the splinter they are in and then checking which ones are the most important in my deck. So here in the earth splinter, I think Bramble Pixie, Runemancer Florre and Ancient Redwood are the most useful cards. Fernheart would also be a nice to have.

I am then checking what levels do I require for the gold league to get the full SPS earnings and what are the max levels. Also, I am checking what abilities each of these cards has at what level that could influence my choice of level.

Runemancer Florre is definetly my top pick and most played Riftwatcher card. I currently have at level 1, but it is my first priority to upgrade to level 3. Florre comes in handy for those high mana battles with no restrictions and plenty of other rulesets with high mana scores.

Reviewing all your cards is quite a time-consuming process but it is good fun to do and really see which ones fit the best into your deck. It is also part of the game and enjoying owning your own NFTs. This was also helpful for me to identify cards that could fit into your deck, but are not upgraded enough yet.

From the water deck, I immediately upgraded Water Caller to the required level 5, where she gets the very useful reflection shield. In addition to the stun ability and 5 mana cost, she is a great addition to many rulesets I have found.

The new Sea Wreck is very new and looks like it too could be an essential card to add to your deck. Having just rented it so far, I think it will be a great addition to any water deck. Playing the wait and see game, I will wait for the prices to go lower before buying yet and wait and see if the usefulness materialises as I expect.

In the fire splinter, there are the most useful riftwatcher cards I think. My favorite initially was Mordeus with his deadly 5 melee attack score and opportunity ability. However, he has some competition with usefulness with Ash Mirage, Tinderlock and Technowizologist.

Ash Mirage tips it for me though with the headwinds and reflection shield at level 6. I immediately bought him. I think Tinderlock is close 2nd and upgraded straight away to level 4 where he gets that useful silence ability to reduce your enemy's magic attack. Those high mana battles are now tipping more in your favor.

Technowizologist with his useful magic stun ability, is also not expensive and I have initially rented him at level 6 at a ridiculously low 2,45 DEC per day. With these low rental prices, it is mad not to take advantage.

In the life deck, the first monster I had already upgraded to level 4 was Runeslinger. I love his stun and affliction abilities and thought he would go well with any Sloan line up. However, the stand out must-have card for me is Corsair Bosun.

In the gold league, you need him at level 5 at least to take full advantage of the cleanse ability which will come in very handy in those high mana poisoned games. His strong melee attack, combined with the reflective shield, make him an essential card in the life deck now.

I am waiting for a nice level 5 card to come up for sale and then buy him. Renting costs a tasty ~23 DEC per day thought.

Runemancer Atuat is thought of a dud legendary in the life deck, but I still like to have him and think he can come in useful sometimes, but you need at least level 3 for the forcefield. Sadly, the attack is pretty low and not impressive.

In the death splinter, it is probably the most difficult for me as I play this splinter the least, but they have some pretty decent cards available. Raa looks pretty powerful with his twin strike and I have seen Queen of Crows used alot.

However, for me, so far I have rented only Arachne Thug at level 5 when the trample ability kicks in. Although in the death deck or combined with dragons, there are many reach ability monsters that might take this place, so I need to play with it abit more.

With a level 5 gold foil costing just 1,7 DEC per day to rent, I haven't even bough him yet. However, it will probably be the first one I buy in the death spinter as it is low cost and an easy one to cross off quickly.

Of the dragons, the standout is of course the legendary Agor Longtail and he is the top of my list to get as he is causing me lots of trouble when I face him. I have him at level 1 though and this is too weak at gold level, so I sent it to my alt while I wait to buy at level 3.

With that heal ability at level 3, he really comes into his own. You can see why people think Runemancer Atuat seems quite weak now. Compared to Agor Longtail, he is a kitty.

Of the neuteral monsters, the first one I upgraded to level 6 was Junker with his reach and repair ability. His only failing is his super slow speed. Since then I also have upgraded Rune Crafter to level 6, but do not use him much.

This leaves the standout card from the neuterals Coeurl Lurker who really dominates here. With his doge abilities at level 3, he can be a formidable foe under many rulesets. He has caused me a few problems on many occassion.

I have him currently just at level 1, which is too weak for gold so have sent to my alt and will look to buy him at level 3 asap.

Summary

Riftwatchers has some really great and essential cards. Most of them are not so cheap, so it is a case of prioritising those really essential ones and snapping them up asap. With the pack burning in progress, I have been having some serious Riftwatchers fomo and start to buy as much DEC as possible to get the cards I want.
