Splinterlands Battle Mage - Broken Arrows

Hello Splinterfans!

This week we have the new Battle Mage Secrets weekly challenge with the ruleset Broken Arrows.

BrokenArrows.jpg

This ruleset is the nightmare for all Sloan fans as you cannot use any ranged attack monsters, even if they are legendary and have other abilities.

This means your opponent will either attack with a melee or magic attack and you can do the same, so what would be the best options in this case? It can also depend on other factors such as what summoners are available and rulesets, but today I will show you one of my favorite tactics with the mighty Immortalis!

Usually, I might like to go in all guns blazing using Obsidian and try and give a maximum magic attack or go all in on a sneak melee attack. However, magic reflecting tank or magic rebuff can leave you very limp handed.

On to this week's battle.

My Team

This is a low mana battle and I am taking a risk using Immortalis who costs 6 mana.

Hill GiantLow mana cost, high health score and Stun ability
UraeusSneak and poison attack

ROUND 1 - Hill Giant vs. Pelacor Mercenary

image.png

I have struck luck that my opponent has gone for the Obsidian magic attack so this would be de-buffed by Immortalis.

It was a consideration of mine if I should go for Pelacor Mercenary too, his sweet healing ability was very tempting, but I instead liked to have an ace up my sleeve with Hill Giant and his awesome stun ability.

In round 1, Uraeus is first to strike and my opponent considered the thorns for this very reason just like me. It is however not enough to stop Uraeus and he takes out Mycelic Morphoid.

Hill Giant sadly misses and takes some heavy damage from Pelacor Mercenary and Djinn Biljka.

ROUND 2

Uraeus takes out the Chaos Agent next and Hill Giant manages to hit the Pelacor Mercenary who with his wings, can be quite evasive. Stun is activated!

While he is stunned, he doesn't attack the Hill Giant who would fall if he did. He also doesn't heal himself.

ROUND 3

In round 3, we are already reaching a climax with both my opponents monsters down to 1 health score. As Djinn Biljka has camoflage ability, all my attack focuses on the stunned Pelacor Mercenary.

First up Uraeus takes a shot and he falls. Next steps up Djinn Biljka into my enemy's tank position. As the Hill Giant has a faster speed than him, Hill Giant attacks next and my opponent is defeated.

Summary:

The broken wings ruleset usually means that you can either use a magic or melee attack, but it can often pay to try and debuff one of these attacks to give you a surprise advantage.

How do you play the broken wings ruleset?

Thanks for reading.

I find it very difficult to play against the immoralis and I've never beaten an immortalis team using obsidian, that defuff makes the magic attack really toothless. I think predicting the attack force of your opponent is another brilliant thing on splinterlands.

@tipu curate for your efforts.

Thanks, it is a tough summoner and will gain more prominence in the coming seasons. I appreciate the Tipu. :)

I just submitted my battles for the most recent brawl. Those were some tough rulesets. Some of these are just nuts. Like arrows only and you can only use even mana cards. I had like five cards to pick from in all of my splinters! Have you played Splex.GG? I've been waiting for one of your play 2 earn updates to see if you listed it.

Yeah sometimes there are just too many rulesets!! I have been playing splexGG, and should really do a post about it but too many other topics to post about first! lol

I don't blame you. I just started playing it the other day. The price of PART seems to be holding up pretty well so far!

Thanks for reminding I need to do my battle mages as well. The classic immortalis vs obsidian .good choice since no ranged. You basically destroyed him 😂. Immortalis is the obsidian killer and rathe killer. Well done bro

Very good strategy, my friend, I have done some of these battles, but personally I like to use magic for these battles, of course the difficulty here is that there was scarce MANA, so the opportunities to choose better cards were limited; however, you got the victory.

Thanks. I would also try to add more magic attack, but the options were quite low here. Luckily still got the win! :)
