Splinterlands Battle Mage - What Doesn't Kill You

Hello Splinterfans!

This week we have the new Battle Mage Secrets weekly challenge with the ruleset What Doesn't Kill You.

This ruleset I have not generally pay much attention to which is to my detrement really as it is a pretty good buff to your melee attack and speed.

One of my main decks is the water deck with Frendul and using lots of opportunity and sneak attack and this fits in naturally with this ruleset.

I also like to use Possibilus with the deadly Diemonshark and soulbound Coastal Sentry combo. Naturally, giving Diemonshark or Coastal Sentry a further buff can prove very deadly than they already are.

In today's battle, we also have Fog of War which mixes things up a bit and throws out some of my expected tactics. I am also playing in the silver league here so am missing some monster abilities that you have in the gold league usually such as heal for Queen Mycelia.

Let's check this week's battle.

My Team

This is a mid-mana battle.

ROUND 1 - Vruz vs - Mycelic Infantry

With fog of war ruleset, there cannot be the maximum use of melee attack that What Doesn't Kill You would ideally suit, therefore I have opted for a strong melee tank that will still buff nicely with enrage.

I then spot my opponent's lineup and know I am in some big trouble. Vruz with his martyr ability, plus Oshuur and Hellondale reviving everyone could cause me some serious havoc. Then the Halfling to reduce my buffed melee attack!

Thanks to the summoner, lots of my magic attack is missing its target. This couldn't get any worse!!! In round 1, Vruz dies but is revived and buffs Phantom. My taunt Mycelic is almost also down.. he is down to just 4 health.

ROUND 2

Round 2 starts badly with Mycelic Slipspawn falling. His 11 health score already wiped out and he has reduced damage from high mana monsters.

Vruz falls twice again and another buff to Phantom. Phantom now has 9 speed and 6 magic attack. Mycelic gets his melee attack halved by Halfling.. what a disaster.

Things are not looking good for me here. Totally outclassed and outgunned.

ROUND 3 - 6

Round 3 starts badly with Mycelic Infantry falling. He could not hold bag the strong magic attack. Queen Mycelia follows in round 4 and Goblin in round 5.

My magic attack is just bouncing off my opponent thanks to the speed buff and summoner phase ability buff.

Phantom of the Abyss is a strong monster, but I think the Vruz and Oshuur combo are the 2 stand out monsters here. Combined also with River Hellondale, they have caused havoc. It is quite often that Oshuur has been a thorn in my side and this is one of those times.

It is all over in round 6.

Summary:

This ruleset ideally benefits those with a strong melee attack and with sneak and opportunity. In this match you could see how ineffective it was with these monsters removed. It could have been a different story.

This is also one of those rulesets as I mentioned that you can often ignore as it is overriden by another ruleset or it can easily be outpowered by a strong magic attack like here.

This week it wasn't what doesn't kill you, it killed me big time and left me in pieces.

How do you play the What Doesn't Kill You ruleset?

Thanks for reading.

o.o what if it does kill u though

Interesting strategy your opponent had tho. I still think sispth as a meme but he played this really well since it's fog of war O.O he can force you to buff his phantom 3x with that double revive damn and if u landed one hit on him with the enrage i think itd be 0% chance to hit so u had 0% chance to win uwu

Yeah it was a disaster here. I think even a ranged attack maybe would not have helped much. What you think of Oshuur? I dont have it yet, but its on my to buy list.

oshurr is good in certain situations where u can double revive with water and life for the martyr . also good for blast and using agorr cuz it revives with the void armor o.o if u have double revive that strategy is pretty annoying too. good in blast and magic reflect rulesets. its a good card in certain situations but not spammy like other cards so its alright maybe a 6-7/10?

Your opponent's summoners really made you lose the battle. Although he had a very formidable team. The resurrect and the Matyr ability also caused a lot of havoc to your lineup.

Your opponent had the best cards in the game. Sometimes the people with more money ends up winning more
