Uriel The Flying Tank - Splinterlands Battle Mage

Hello Splinterfans!

This week we have the new Battle Mage Secrets weekly challenge with the ruleset Earthquake.

Uriel.jpg

Very often I am getting annoyed as one of the most common rulesets that pops up is Earthquake and it can be a tricky ruleset to play quite often.

This is because, sometimes some of the rulesets prohibit some of my strategies such as going in for a snipe attack but legendaries are prohited too. Or going for a powerful magic attack but not enough mana or odd-numbered monsters.

My goto guy for Earthquake would be Brighton Bloom but I only have him at level 1 at the moment. This would give my team wings normally. However, I do have a few other fallback plans to use which I will show you today.

On to this week's battle.

My Team

This is a high mana battle and I am going to go for Mother Khala and the awesome Uriel up front as my tank.

Summoner/ MonsterReason
Mother KhalaExtra health
Uriel the PurifierFlying & heal ability
Legionnaire AlvarStrong shield
Adelade BrightwingFlying, repair and resurrect abilities
Djinn RenovaStrengthen & triage abilities
War PegasusFlying ability
Imperial KnightStrong shield & heal ability

My opponents

Summoner/ Monster
Lily Shieldpaw
Imperial Knight
Carnage Titan
Drybone Barbarian
War Pegasus
Djinn Renova
Jared Scar

The rules for the battle are:

Odd Ones OutOnly Monsters with Odd Mana Costs may be used in battle
Super SneakAll Melee Monsters have the sneak ability
EarthquakeNon-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round

ROUND 1 - Imperial Knight vs. Uriel the Purifier

image.png

My opponent has gone for Lily Shieldpaw who will protect the back row of his attack and provide some triage cover too. He has loaded his team with some strong melee attack monsters with the powerful Carnage Titan a worrying double-strike monster plus one of my favorites Jared Scar whom I was unsure to add in or not because of his low health score.

Round 1 starts and both sides rain down punishing blows. My Imperial Knight in the last position receiving all the sneak blows from my opponent and his Imperial Knight in the tank position getting all the blows from my team.

Uriel for his part doesn't do anything yet because of his recharge ability, but my opponent is more weakend than I am so far.

ROUND 2

Round 2 starts off with the earthquake rule kicking in. This is too much for my opponent's Imperial Knight and he is the first to fall. Up steps Carnage Titan in his place.

Poor Carnage Titan though, after War Pegasus shatters his shield, he takes a few blows from my team but Uriel steps in with his huge melee attack thanks to his recharge ability and finishes him off.

ROUND 3

image.png

In round 3, Drybone Barbarian steps up for my opponent. He has a strong melee attack but a low health score thanks to his not being able to fly. Due to Lily Shieldpaw, instead of the last monster receiving blows from sneak ability, everything is going to rain down on him, except from Uriel as his recharge ability doesn't attack this turn... that is a lucky escape for Drybone.. or is it? He still falls quickly allowing War Pegasus to step into the tank position and his ranged attack is now useless.

ROUND 4 & 5

image.png

It is the beginning of the end now, War Pegasus is their only flying monster and he is about to get pummelled by Uriel. Djinn Renova follows suit leaving Jared Scar on his own in round 5. He is of course quickly removed and it was a convincing win in the end.

Summary:

A few key flying monsters in the life deck can really pay off. Uriel the Purifier with his heal ability and strong melee attack. Adelade Brightwing with the helpful repair and resurrect abilities can cause some serious carnage.

I kept Legionaire Alvar with his huge shield as a backup in case Uriel would fall, but it never happened. Maybe next time I would try Jared Scar with his stronger attack. He is always good to use when you can keep him protected from attack with his low health score.

How do you play the earthquake ruleset?

Thanks for reading.

Hmmm I'm surprised your opponent didn't play Uriel though. Not sure what he's thinking as well as Adelade. I think this was a mistake O.O

Yeah, it was a critical error! :)

I used to hate earthquake too, but now that I have that dragon summoner who gives all of your cards flight, it isn't so bad. As long as you are allowed to use the dragon splinter of course!

Yeah, he is a great summoner, I think I need to upgrade mine!

It's one of the only Dragon summoners I have in GF.

The Rare Water Summoner Vera Salacia can easily defeat your favorite Brighton Bloom! 😆 Although that's only possible when both the Dragon and Water Splinters are available in the Battle. 😅

That is a great strategy. I think I will buy her and test it out for this ruleset :) !LOLZ !HUG

If the opponent predicts that you will use Vera Salacia on a Battle with the Earthquake Rule, then they will simply use Monsters without Flying and instead focus on Shield, Heal, Repair, and/or Protect, which will make your Summoner not useful on the Battle. 🤓 !LOLZ !HUG

It is something to consider. I have rented now for a few days to test out. !LOLZ !WINE

You need to wait for Battles with the Earthquake Rule though to utilize the Rare Water Summoner Vera Salacia to its full potential. 😅

The #Splinterlands Battle with the Earthquake Ruleset also needs to allow the Water Splinter (and should also allow the Dragon Splinter) for you to have the chance to counter Flying Monsters with Vera Salacia. 😏 !WEED !LOLZ

Maybe use #Splintertools (https://splintertools.io/) with Vera Salacia and the Earthquake Rule instead of eagerly waiting. 😅

The only #Splinterlands Summoner that gives your Monsters the Flying Ability is the Rare Dragon Summoner Brighton Bloom. 🤓

If the Battle has the Earthquake Ruleset, and the Dragon Splinter isn't allowed in the Battle but the Water Splinter is, you can use the Rare Water Summoner Vera Salacia to give all your Monsters the Snare Ability, which when paired with Monsters with Flying (or Shield that decreases damage from Earthquake from 2 to 1), you can easily defeat the opponent's flying Monsters. 😏 That said, Vera Salacia is a great counter to Brighton Bloom. 😎
