Our chief FOMO officer, @aggroed, has asked the Splinterlands(https://splinterlands.com) gamers to post/blog how this game changed our lives on our social media channels. In a few words, I have become more free and so more able to realize my best potential. The much touted promise of blockchain, starting with Bitcoin as store of value, independent of any government managed currency, broke ground and set new precedents. A few laters, the wide social memes generated from Ethereum's CryptoKitties (https://cryptokitties.co) broke through all kinds of walls to reach beyond the simple use case of independent,digital currency to an independent digital economy, tied to value based on a global, digital community via the internet. In short, it allowed me to join and participate in global communities of value and economy rooted on collectibility and the awesome power of kitty cuteness. From there, I find myself astounded to realize in Splinterlands, I have unbounded, virtual economies that have gone way beyond a one-function economy and limited by only human imagination. The surprises don't stop there. What could be moreof a precedent is the working bridge between a for-profit, centralized company and public blockchain, decentralized economies. The Splinterlands company has shown that empowering and enriching their gamer communitity on top of public, transparent blockhain is in their own best self-interest. The metrics on gamer engagement, such as percent (i.e. above 50%) of initial purchases from new gamers on a FREE to play game, is just one revealing and supporting metric. The future of this company is boggling to imagine when one considers a path towards being a publicly traded company. How does that work when it makes increasingly decentralized products on a public blockchain? Is it feasible? I don't know but I'm very excited to see it unfold.
