Greetings to all the members of the Hive Blockchain community, most especially those who enjoy playing Splinterlands. I would like to share my experience after selling my Conqueror Jacek!

Conqueror Jacek - Initial Excitement!

I recently got to use a Level 3 Conqueror Jacek. My good friend markjason sold me one at a very handsome discount. Jacek is a legendary summoner from the Fire splinter in the Chaos Legion set. He requires 6 mana, buffs your monsters’ speed by 2, gives your monsters ability to pierce through the opponent’s shield, and allows your ranged and magic monsters to target anyone of your opponent’s monsters randomly. I thought he is a main counter balance against Grandmaster Rathe, and may stand up against Yodin. I was very excited to test him out!

The Test Runs

After I got him, I used Conqueror Jacek whenever I can. After a few runs, I got a low win rate. While I had fun exploring his strengths, weaknesses and limits, I felt he was underwhelming. I thought he was only effective in certain situations. When the rule set is armored up or the opponent is expected to field in shielded monsters, then Jacek can easily melt through them. When there is blast rule, Jacek can easily overpower a Yodin lineup as the former usually would attack first. Even when clove71 featured him in her videos, she got low win rates. So, I sold him in the market, thinking that maybe I can keep my money for now and buy him again later in the future when he gets cheaper.

My Realizations

After I sold Jacek, I experienced seller’s remorse. I looked back at my testing. I had low win rate because I might have used Jacek more often than I should, even when the situation called for a better set of team. Also, seeing that I used Jacek multiple times, my opponent could easily guess and prepare for my lineup. And lastly, I got to face Jacek in a match that I didn’t think would have been successful against my lineup. I underestimated him and he beat me.

Sample Battle

Target Practice - All Ranged and Magic attack Monsters have the Snipe ability.
Mana cap = 34
Splinters = Fire, Earth, Death, or Dragon

Let us look at how my opponent used his Conqueror Jacek. In this battle, I put the Failed Summoner in the second position for the snipers to target him. I wanted my opponent’s magic monsters to hurt themselves, especially as I have a Queen Mycelia that has triage and amplify. Unfortunately, my opponent’s magic monsters did not target my Failed Summoner because of Jacek’s scattershot. Also, the protect ability of Queen Mycelia was ineffective as Jacek melts through armor. I was caught off guard.

Recommendation

7 out of 10

While Jacek might be situational, there are many other instances that will put a Jacek lineup at an advantage. I just hope that he gets cheaper so I can buy him back!
