Opening 99 Foundation Packs: A Massive Step Forward for My Frontier Deck

Today I treated myself to something I haven’t done in quite a while: a massive pack opening.

I opened 99 Foundation packs—just one shy of my 100-pack target, but still a satisfying number that felt big enough to make the moment memorable. With Frontier mode becoming such an active part of my daily gameplay loop, I wanted to take a real swing at strengthening my deck.

Why 99 Packs Now?

Over the last couple of weeks, I stopped opening my daily Foundation packs and instead began stacking them. I had temporarily abandoned the idea of relying on pack luck and shifted to the marketplace to secure the remaining cards I needed for a competitive Frontier lineup.

This included:

  • Maxing all Archons
  • Picking up elusive Legendaries that clearly define the meta
  • Filling in weak areas of my Splinters

Once I brought my deck to a solid competitive state, I allowed myself to start saving packs. I knew a large opening would be fun—and also potentially meaningful as a final push to max out the cards I’m still missing.

The Opening: Some Wins, Some Gaps

The 99-pack opening brought a few exciting hits: a couple of strong cards and some Gold Foils, which always feel great to pull. Those are valuable not just for play, but for Collection Points and raffle chances too.

Still, despite the solid results, I’m missing a few key meta cards that I want to eventually max out. The temptation to immediately jump into the market was strong—but this time, I held back.

Why I Didn’t Finish the Set on the Market

I reminded myself:

There’s plenty of time.

Foundation packs will continue dropping through Frontier quests and weekly raffles. And I’ve been surprisingly consistent in playing daily specifically because the quest system has been so engaging.

Between:

  • Daily 5-win quests
  • Frontier chest rewards
  • Weekly raffles
  • The thrill of cracking open packs

…I’ve found myself logging in every day with purpose. It’s been refreshing, and I don’t want to break that flow by rushing to finish the set.

Frontier Has Pulled Me In—Now I Wish Modern Would Too

One of the unexpected outcomes of all this is how much Frontier mode has reinvigorated my Splinterlands routine. Pack chasing, progression mechanics, raffles, and the sense of building something from scratch—it all feels new and motivating.

But it does make me wish we had something similar in Modern.

My Modern knowledge and competitiveness have fallen behind as the meta has shifted dramatically. Without an engaging loop like daily rewards or progression incentives, I haven’t felt the same pull to return and relearn an environment that has clearly passed me by.

Maybe someday we’ll get a revitalizing feature there too.

The 99-pack opening wasn’t perfect, but it was a meaningful moment in my Frontier journey. I strengthened my deck, filled in gaps, and set myself up for continued progression. And more importantly, Frontier mode has kept me engaged in a way I didn’t expect.

There’s still plenty of grinding, collecting, and strategizing ahead—but for now, I’m excited to keep chasing packs, raffles, and the evolving meta, one quest at a time.
