Splinterlands: Riftwatcher Glitter
The lure of pack opening for Gold Foil Legendary cards is probably what got me hooked in the ecosystem. I was only planning to buy a couple of packs to see what it was all about back in Alpha. I still recall opening individual packs and screenshotting them to track my cards! The excitement of luck came to me rather quickly as I got a Gold Foil Lord of Darkness within my first couple of packs. From then on, I was addicted.
However, it really did not stay that way as through the multiple editions I never felt like I got an abnormally high amount of Gold Foil Legendaries. After a while, I stopped really expecting them and since until Chaos Legion, my intent was to never play Gold Foil, it didn’t really provide me an effort to monitor and track. In fact, I know that for my 3k+ Chaos Legion packs, my Legendary Gold Foils were relatively low. However, I have made them up in getting a number of AirDrop Gold Foils of the same edition.
Riftwatchers was unique as a number of cards in the edition seem like Legendaries given their high mana cost so it was a bit confusing when opening my packs. I also had an awkward situation in that I ran out of funds to buy enough potions for all my packs so I could only open about 1,700 of my 2,400 packs. This is the lowest editions of packs I have opened since Orbs I think where I never got a Gold Foil Legendary.
However, I was pleasantly surprised when I asked my daughter to bring me luck and open the packs in blocks of 200 packs one evening. In that short time, I got 9 Gold Foil Legendaries! It was glittering bright that night as not only the quantity was good but the quality as well. Most of the pulls were the popular ones which have been trading above $200 each! I also got 3 of a particular one which made me consider buying one more to max out for gameplay. I will have to still wait on what I get for my remaining unopened packs as well.
While I do not intend to play max Gold Foil Legendaries, I do want the rest of the set to be max Gold so the news of good luck on these pack openings is great as it creates opportunities to trade with other gold seekers around the community. I have already traded two for a good number of common and rare Gold Foils. It was sad to see them go away but I look forward to soon playing with a max deck of the new Riftwatchers Edition!
