Splinterlands: Summoner FOMO

The latest Edition of Splinterlands, Chaos Legion, continues to expand as the packs sold surpass half of the total collection. With the last couple of milestones, the game is now starting to mint new Summoners as they are Airdropped to players. This continues to expand the assortment of available Summoners which are a key piece in establishing the meta of the game. It is interesting that they remain well priced among most cards and that is likely because of their versatility. This has been unfortunate for me as I still feel I need more as part of my Collection.

This need for more and the lack of more supply at prices I relate to has caused me some FOMO recently. It has been a while since I got this type of FOMO which has always ended positive for me but some of these prices were interesting as they ramped up very quickly given the depth of the market in some of these Summoners. However, I continued to add until I got a couple of hundred more for my Collection.

Why have I gotten the Summoner FOMO? I think I continue to feel that land is getting closer to becoming a reality. While the details are still very limited, one thing that has been consistent in conversations is the likelihood that each plot of land will likely need a Summoner to call out the monsters. In addition, like most mechanics in the game, there are incentives for using higher level cards for anything in the game. This is where my math blew my mind as I most certainly will likely never have enough Summoners to optimize all my land plots if they need to be anywhere near maxed out.

My prior experiences with FOMO in Splinterlands have always paid off. While I have never sold a card in this game yet, the value of my Collection has not seen a turn negative given the early days it was started. This may change given the ultimate supply of this edition but the utility will always be present given the development at hand in the ecosystem. Whether it be land, tower defense or something else, Summoners will always have a space in my Collection!

When land arrives and the fomo gets real. I will time for me to say goodbye to Splinterlands. Take my profit and run. Could be a stupid decision however!

Interesting perspective… I think land will add more dynamics and economics that will dilute the strength of bots and put them to work for real players as they farm resources while players play. I think it will overall be a better experience for all parties in the ecosystem which will add value and potentially reduce asset volatility.
