Splinterlands: The Great Burning

It is unbelievable to say that Splinterlands is celebrating five years as a Blockchain project given the markets it and the community have endured. I think we are a unique ecosystem that continues to pave the way forward to innovation in the blockchain gaming space. To celebrate these five years, the team has developed an interesting event aimed at helping the tokenomics that have been somewhat challenged this year given the macro challenges around the asset class.

Called the Great Burning, the event will run for 30 days to incentivize the burning of DEC and DEC-B tokens in return for points that will gradual decrease for each token burned. The top 200 accounts in terms of points will be guaranteed some prizes which range from a legendary title with a Tract to a rare title. Given the demand around land and the utility that titles will have on land, it is an interesting value proposition for those looking to claim some land.

However, in addition for points to compete on the leaderboard, points will also serve as chances for additional prizes that will be randomly drawn for each 10k points an account earns. The prizes are quite interesting as well as there will be a total of 3,500 prizes that range from individual packs of almost all past editions to even 25 Runi that will be assigned as well. The team didn’t stop there either as they also provided Guild Points for each DEC burned as well. With Guild Points going live soon, it is clearly a great opportunity to accelerate any upgrades wanted for Guild Buildings.

The event has so far been a success with total DEC now falling below 5 Billion on HIVE. While DEC remains as a discount to peg despite the large amount being burned, the amount of DEC coming out is clearly a great start as we approach Land 1.5 which will add to the sinks of DEC supply that currently challenges the initiation of the now infamous “flywheel” that many await. While tensions have remained high amongst the community, I still feel that the ecosystem continues to demonstrate innovative approaches to the challenges presented and that encourages me towards the future potential of it all!
