The Painful Path to Cinder: My Toughest Splinterlands Burn Yet

I knew going in that the Cinder requirement was steep. My allocation alone required 929,000 Cinder, and that was before accounting for my desire to mint max copies of the Epic and Legendary Land Cards where my allotted amounts weren’t enough. Altogether, I would need just over 1 million Cinder.
Getting there was not easy.
Creating the Burn List: The First Emotional Break
I tried to approach the process logically—and PeakMonsters helped tremendously. Their tools allowed me to build a clean, emotionless list of cards to burn. Seeing the numbers and burn values made it easier… at least at first.
But after stepping away and giving myself time to think, the emotions returned. I started reopening the list and pulling out cards I just couldn’t bring myself to destroy:
- Legendaries that still hold long-term potential
- Archons/Summoners, which feel irreplaceable in any competitive collection
- Gold foils whose future value or utility is still unknown
It felt like I was cutting pieces out of my collection identity.
The Final 100,000 Cinder: Where It Really Hurt
Removing those cards meant I had to dig deeper. I needed one last push—just over 100k Cinder—to complete the plan.
This was the point where logic had to win over emotion.
I closed my eyes and burned cards I knew were probably worth more on the market than their burn value—gold foils, a few legendaries, and some powerful staples I never thought I’d part with.
It truly felt like ripping off a bandage. A painful, expensive bandage.
Was It Worth It?
Surprisingly… yes.
As soon as I saw the pricing on the new Land Cards, I knew I had made the right choice. The market has been extremely aggressive—much higher than I expected—and minting my allocation (plus extras for the Epics and Legendaries I needed) would’ve been far more expensive if I had waited and simply bought them.
Now, in front of me sits the reward for all that strategic sacrifice:
a full maxed set of every Land Card.
It’s satisfying, and honestly a bit surreal.
A Shift in Strategy, and a Reminder of the Game Within the Game
This burn event reminded me of what Splinterlands really is:
a collection of intersecting economies and decision layers, each one asking players to make choices that balance risk, value, and long-term vision.
It wasn’t fun—and it certainly wasn’t easy—but it was part of the evolving complexity that keeps the game interesting.
Burning cards I’ve held for years hurt.
But moving fully into the next phase of Land feels like stepping into the future of Splinterlands.
And for now, I’m glad I took the leap.
