The Temptation of Automation: Navigating the Splinterlands Ranked Frustration

Tempation for Botting.png

In the intricate realm of Splinterlands, where strategy and skill intertwine, the lure of automation beckons once again as the nuances of the ranked system continue to pose challenges and frustrations. The decision to reintroduce a bot into the gameplay is fueled by a series of considerations that reflect the evolving landscape of the Splinterlands experience.

As the pursuit of a fully maxed set of Soulbound reward cards nears completion, the intrinsic motivation to engage in manual play encounters a critical juncture. The question arises: With a comprehensive set at my disposal, what significance do the conventional reward chests hold? The diminishing reasons to persist with manual gameplay prompt a reevaluation of the gaming approach.

Furthermore, the accumulation of a substantial SPS (Splinterlands Governance Token) reserve contributes to the shifting dynamics. The prospect of sharing earnings with a bot operator becomes a viable alternative, offering respite from the challenges and aggravations associated with maintaining a manual presence throughout the season. The potential symbiosis between manual and automated gameplay surfaces as a pragmatic solution to optimize rewards and engagement.

One intriguing aspect to explore is the viability of remaining competitive in the Wild League by only using modern cards. With the majority of non-modern cards now residing on the land, the landscape of strategic play within the Wild League emerges as a potential arena for continued engagement and exploration.

While the temptation to embrace automation is palpable, the decision remains complex, balancing the desire for efficiency with the intrinsic value derived from hands-on participation. The Splinterlands journey, characterized by its ever-evolving challenges and choices, unfolds against the backdrop of a dynamic gaming ecosystem.

As the community navigates the interplay between manual and automated play, the pursuit of balance and fulfillment in the Splinterlands experience remains at the forefront. This post reflects on the nuanced considerations that underscore the journey, acknowledging the multifaceted nature of decision-making within the vibrant Splinterlands community.

It's indeed not easy not to succumb to the easyness of automation in a ever changing gaming environment. I basically only play brawls manually nowadays. Nicely written post!

offering respite from the challenges and aggravations associated with maintaining a manual presence throughout the season.

For me, the real treat of ranked play is still the strategy of each little 3-minute battle. Not to mention the uber-competitiveness of tournaments and brawls, but that's a different story altogether.

Firstly, IDGAFOS about land really, except for the prefix titles that confer rShare bonuses that have yet not materialized. Sure it is good for the game to have utility to cards that lack strategic value in ongoing gameplay, but that whole resource allocation subgame is just a lifeless distraction to me. Most of my wild cards are still on my main account to battle in wild, and especially for tournaments.

Secondly, I still actively use Xbot at different times in the season, and especially during the week when I know I will be short on the time and attention I need to play my ranked battles to good use. But when the weekend rolls around and I have more time to battle freely, I often find myself buying more energy, even in champion league, because I crave more of the battle strategy.

Finally, I've maxed my SB set about a month ago, so these days I'm mostly rooting for GF cards, merits over 1K, and SPS over 100. With over 10K of each potion, I can't afford the cost of packs to get value out of these resources (yet).

I'm glad we still have the option of automation in the wild format, where anything goes and older cards give you an edge over others that are battling with only a modern collection. On the other hand, it always amazes me that I have an alt account with merely a silver max CL+RF deck (and SB leveled to gold league) that uses XBot to play at Gold 1 for the majority of every season. Over the last 3 months, I've even been able to advance to diamond in the last hours of each season to ensure I get better quality end of season diamond chests. Of course the rShare penalty is far too steep to battle for daily focused chests at diamond league. Using just a silver CL deck, the Xbot algorithm can be successful (just over 50% winrate) against gold wild collections. Automation is amazing!
