Bye, Bye DEC. Hello SPS rewards.

A new era for Splinterlands.

Like anybody else who has been playing splinterlands for a long time, we have always been used to earning DEC.

For those of us who have been playing even longer there was a time when DEC didn't even exist.

DEC was a huge development at the time and changed the economy of the game.

With these latest changes it should do the same thing all over again.

Will it help or hurt is another question but it will change things.

The token given out for ranked battle rewards in the game (including both wins and season/focus loot chests) will be changing from DEC to staked SPS. We believe that this change is a crucial step towards the overall goal of rewarding players with increased stake in the platform in proportion to their level of skill, assets, and participation in the core game.

As of yesterday these changes have gone live.

The aim with this is the turn DEC into an asset backed stablecoin within the game and to change the reward system to incentivize players to level up and move up the ranks.

New reward rankings.

So according to the splinterlands team this should roughly double the season reward pool.

Will it be enough to encourage players to move higher and try to earn more rewards?

Since the majority of rewards are moving to the upper tiers for the game then it would only make sense that the majority of players try to move where there is more money and less competition for those rewards.

A champion chest will be worth on average 150 times more than a bronze chests as things stand right now.

That's a big incentive to get into champion for myself at least.

I had rented out a lot of my cards for the past seasons but it might be time to strengthen up my playing deck again and try for the top tier.

With rentals getting cheaper it's a good time to go for the bigger purses.

Try for yourself.

If you haven't played the game before then now is the best time to join. Today is much better than tomorrow and a lot better than later.

Cards worth a few cents now will have a much higher value in the future as the print runs out. We have a strong community and seen this happen every time as it grows with the game.

That's awesome. This change makes a lot of sense for Splinterlands economy. Hoarding DEC & SPS now and putting them into Liquidity Pools :')

It could potentially attract outsiders as well due to doubling of rewards.

That's a very good question... One thing is clear. The reward pool will be fixed and DEC's inflation drops significantly.

It's some interesting changes but I don't really think it will be enough to make people move up. If it does get cheaper, we can probably expect a larger influx of bots to come in and try to take advantage of it.
