Splinterlands. 5 years and going strong.

It's been a long road to where we are now in blockchain gaming. I've seen dozens of hive games and hundreds of blockchain games go to the wall but one of the first is still the best.

Splinterlands have pioneered so many ideas that we see in other games now and have come a long way from the first cards that they released for speculation as there was no game in place yet.

I saw the kickstater packages but didn't buy in until beta release. Looking back now it was a bad call but i was new to crypto at the time and not willing to jump in to a project that wasn't built yet. In fairness that's a good call in most cases as about 95% of crypto projects have failed in their first two years but splinterlands has only grown from those early days.

When I started palying the game all we had was the promise of a game to come.

Then over time they kept adding more and more features that the community needed to grow. Five years of development and we are sitll only in the building phase.

They went from crowdfunding to card packs.

  • Pack openings.
  • Battles.
  • Tournaments
  • Website.
  • Leagues.
  • Markets.
  • Card rentals.
  • Guilds.
  • Land.
  • Multiple card editions.
  • Partnerships.

And so many more bits and pieces added to flesh out the eco-system. Now we are finally getting to see the structure of land and how it will operate as well as a side game that will add a new dimension to splinterlands. And we are still a long way from the finished product.

There have been a lot of ups and downs over those few years but we are in a lot better place now than we were in those early days. The team has had to cut staff, beat lawsuits, fight some of the OG's and listen to all of us the whole way through the build and thy haven't quit on us yet.

I have had my own questions as well but all we can do is wait and see if they can deliver the game that they have promised for so long.

The roadmap for the rest oft he year looks interesting and hopefully we will see an increase in card prcices again when land staking goes live and a revamp of rentals. At the moment i'm focusing on buying up maxed beta cards which are not renting that well but will be worth a lot on land when mining resources goes live and should make a nice profit.

Prices have been dropping all year so now is a good time to buy up the stroger ones. Splinterlands has changed a lot in the past five years and if it survives it will change a lot more over the next five. That's why I'm stacking up resources while i can.

In five years it might be next to impossible to buy up a maxed beta as there are very few cards for sale form the early editions. Looking at epic beta's. Most have less than 20 cards on the market which means that prices will rise very fast as they get bought up.

Who know what the state of play will be but 5 years in any business should be celebrated.

Try for yourself.

If you haven't played the game before then now is the best time to join. Today is much better than tomorrow and a lot better than later.

Thanks for sharing! - @libertycrypto27

You are absolutely right 5 years should always be celebrated and Splinterlands in my opinion is a good example for all current and even future Hive games to follow!

Irrespective of the fact that you didn't make that call to buy in early, I think it was still a good a decision. Sometimes the choices we made back then was because we were new to the game. I also started playing the game very late and regretted it, but still within 5 years, I still think I'm an early adopter compared to the coming 5 to ten years.

Splinterlands is doing great and I decided to buy one of those new promo cards. The game is staying strong and there are so many people. With land coming out, the game just keeps getting bigger so there are many different ways for people to play the game.
