New developments every week..

The best way to that is with information. Knowing what everybody else knows but knowing it before them.

Splinterlands is constantly updating and developing but they have a great source of information in the weekly town hall.

The latest one can be found here.

I try to listen in live when i can but they are good enough to put up the video and summary every week for when i can't.

I won't even summarize the points as that is what their post is for. You can just go and read it to get all of the latest info.

  • Riftwatchers soon.
  • SPS rewards soon.
  • Land in progress.
  • Non card market in the works.

All of these have been talked about before.

There was a lot to talk about in the latest updates but one of the newest that i hadn't heard about before is the new tournaments.

Splinterlands open tournaments.

This bit for me has the most potential to impact the game in a big way and very fast once they get to a certain level.

New tournament type will be released in tomorrow's maintenance - Splinterlands Open

  • New tournament type allows all players to use the exact same cards without having to own/rent them
  • Evens the playing field for all participants and lets players play with cards that they may never be able to play with
  • Splinterlands Open will provide a maxed version of each card for the League level selected
  • New tournament type will also appeal to brand new players and let them try it out before investing or getting in
  • This new type of tournament will be limited in terms of only being made by the Splinterlands team
  • First tournament of this type will be done at Splinterfest

I think that this is a huge step in turning the game into a mainstream success and onboarding a lot more users.

The biggest barrier to entry for a lot of people is the top heavy decks form older players who dominate the leagues and the tournaments. They are just no fun to play since you are up against maxed out decks with overpowered cards worth thousands of dollars.

This will allow an even playing field where skill and strategy will be the most important factor. Not money.

I can't remember which player it was but for the past couple of years they have advocated for a pokerstars style tournament system which i think would work very well.

With this new format you could have sit and go style tournaments as soon as they were filled out.

They could happen at all price points from 1 SPS to 10,000 SPS. Split the entry fee among the top finishers and give a whole new use case to the token.

I hate these 24 hour rounds over two day. A tournament should start at a certain time and finish after everybody is knocked out.

Take 10% rake and use it to fund freerolls or just burn it form supply.

I often burn out my ECR or get bored of the grind whereas this would bring an element of competition into the game that you could play at any time and win some proper funds.

People spend hours playing these small tournaments every day online and can make a living out of it.

Imagine the same from splinterlands where luck isn't the deciding factor like in poker since we are all dealt the same cards.

Instead it would come down to each players strategy inside a given ruleset and mana.

This could be great to draw in the gaming crowd for a skill based game with real rewards and constant tournaments. I can see it being a massive part of the game if they can get it set up the right way.

Try for yourself.

If you haven't played the game before then now is the best time to join. Today is much better than tomorrow and a lot better than later.

Cards worth a few cents now will have a much higher value in the future as the print runs out. We have a strong community and seen this happen every time as it grows with the game.

Missed this news. Yeah, I think it's going to be interesting. I tried a couple of tournaments and gave up precisely because it's impossible to compete against a strong deck.
Thanks for the thoughts!

I like to think that I've a strong enough eck but it gets destroyed in the tournaments.

Too many OG's in there.
