Share Your Battle: Spineback Turtle

avatar

This week the Share Your Battle challenge monster is the Spineback Turtle. It is a water Splinter common Beta card and is a tank with a mana cost of 4. I do not own one, so I rented a Level 1 Spineback Turtle to use in this week’s challenge.

Most tanks in Splinterlands have a high mana cost. Of all the tanks that are 4 mana or less, the Spineback tutle is the greatest in all of Splinterlnads in my opinion. Tanks like this with low mana costs are often called mini tanks. Level 4 is where it gets real beasty as it adds thorns which does 2 damage every time it is hit by a Melee monster.

For this week’s challenge, I have chosen to share a 14 mana match with a Standard: No modification to gameplay ruleset.

A small mana match seemed like a good time to use the Spineback Turtle. Considering that it is only a 4 mana tank, the turtle cannot be killed off very quickly, with its 6 health and 2 shield. For my summoner, I went with Bortus because it provides -1 to all enemy magic attacks. This will offset the risk of a strong magic attack that would go through the shields.

After the Spineback Turtle, I filled out the rest of my lineup with a Furious Chicken, an Ice Pixie, and a Venari Wavesmith which provides an additional 2 shield to all my monsters.

Start of Game / Round 1

Round 2

During the first round, I destroyed my opponents first card while retaining all of mine.

Round 3

I've almost taken out another card. However, my Furious Chicken has nearly been wiped out.

Round 4

I've taken out another card. My Furious Chicken is gone, but luckily the next card that my opponents sniper will target has 2 armor.

Round 5

I'm very close to victory at this point.

After 5 rounds the game was essentially over. My opponents final card which was a ranged attack monster fell into first position where it could not attack any longer.

My opponent’s team had no monsters with magic attack. So overall my strategy of having a mini tank with a bit of shielding and then further fortifying it with 2 additional shield for all my monsters worked. Putting my furious chicken in the second position was a perfect call. My opponent had one sniper which focused some firepower on defeating a monster that could not attack anyway.
