Drake of Arnak | Splinterlands Art Contest Week 202 [ESP-ENG]
Hello friends, how are you!
Today I'm presenting again to the Splinterlands art contest, an interesting challenge, where every week we can find interesting illustrations that put into play the creativity and technique of the hive illustrators! This week I found it interesting to use the card "Drake of Arnak", he's a half-dragon mage, and the two have always been my favorite things when I played wow, so it was like love at first sight! xD
Experimenting a new style!, always surfing the internet you find interesting things! And something I wanted to try, was drawing with hatching, and I found this artist on Twitter whose style looks very dynamic, I said I have to start practicing it!
Processo:
Process:For the illustration I used a vertical composition, with a pronounced perspective, and maybe it doesn't show in the sketch, but I struggled a lot with that snout, I had to see a lot of references of dragons and "furry art" xD.
Yes it was a challenge to solve the drawing, but after that I was able to focus on the line art and the screening, my first hatching! of course it can be improved, but I'm quite happy with the result, I feel that on its own it stands up quite well, and it also has that half graffiti vibe that gives it a dynamic touch, I'm going to keep working on the hatching and seeing how I can mix it with my style, for now this first test I think it's going well!
Then I decided to add color, I used the base colors that are in the original illustration, but I touched them a little to accommodate the more sober color palette, and so the lights and other background colors stand out more, I also added a small layer of shadows and lights, in order to make a more obvious contrast to the character.
For the background I had some clear inspirations, I love the waporwave style, but that's not what I did here, I used the idea of the "grid" that fades in the perspective, and with the free brush pack from Marc Brunet, I also added elements that fill the background and follow the vanishing point.I also added a kind of flames that came from the distance at the call of the wizard, and these are the ones that surround the Drake of Arnak.

Thank you so much for making it this far! I hope you found my entry to the Splinterlands art contest interesting, I really enjoy participating, because there is already interesting character both in design and lore and it allows me to focus on the drawing I want to do!, as I still consider myself an apprentice who is still evolving, playing with the concepts and with the characters is super fun!
Thanks again for supporting my artwork!
