April 21 of HiveBloPoMo and the prompt is - done for. I don't care about a prompt anymore, I'll use it if I can otherwise my only goal is now to persevere and blog each day for another 8 days (today excluded).

So, today I am going to blog about...

Splinterlands

More specifically about their weekly battle challenge. Then again, I got asked in a previous post What is Splinterlands. So, maybe I should start there - on a very, very high level.

Splinterlands is a card game, more specifically a Trading Card Game built on the Hive blockchain. You may have heard of games like Magic The Gathering or Hearthstone, well, Splinterlands is similar (gamers - please don't hate me if I got this wrong) - but different. You battle one team against another, place your cards strategically and win or lose. Though unlike with the other games, when you win you get a little something, a token called DEC, which is worth a bit of real money, FIAT.

Yet most importantly - you own the assets, the cards. And these cards have real value. This value decreased a little over the past few months like the whole crypto market but before that, it climbed a ton. Just an example: I was lucky and got a Byzantine Kitty out of a loot box that I bought for, was it the equivalent of $2.50? I don't remember. Right out of the bat, its value was $29 - yay!! Guess what? Somewhere along the line, its value was over $800. That is eight.hundred.US.dollars! Whoa....

I just checked and today it is only $375 - still a huge win, right? But apart from that aspect, honestly, I just enjoy playing the game. I never thought that I would enjoy a digital card game as much as I do. For me it is great to decompress for a few minutes after a stressful workday - unless, of course, you have a losing streak or low mana all the way or poison - LOL - poison is my personal bane, somehow I always forget about it.

Anyhoo, so now you've got a very tiny idea about the game, so let's get to the weekly battle challenge. And I have to say, Splinterlands - you picked an awesome card, one of my favorites of the Chaos Legion:

Time Mage

Edition: CHAOS LEGION
Rarity: RARE
Element: LIFE
Attack: MAGIC
Abilities: Slow and lvl 5 reduce armor (wish I had that)

One of my most favorite set ups is playing my Life summoner Lorna lvl 3 with Time Mage GF lvl 2 plus Venari Crystalmith plus whatever mana I have left over.

Time Mage costs only 4 mana which is really not bad for a 1 magic at 5 (!) speed plus slowing the opposing team by 1? Seriously, what is not to like about this card. @Splinterlands - sorry, I bet you've got tons of posts this week to weed through 🤣.

So, I recently played a brawl for my guild Acolytes of Helio - and btw - we are recruiting... - and I had this one battle. You know when the opposing team gets revealed and I was like - oh no, I'm going against Scarred Llama Mage, the Earth summoner? Darn'!.

But it was a low(ish) mana game with 14 points only so my opponent couldn't use Llama + Kron. Had that been the case I would have been toast, well, maybe. Anyways... this was the battle set up:

As you can see, I went for the strategy use a ton of low cost, attacking from all positions, while your 'tanks' are zero cost cards approach - hahaha - does that make sense? Burn 'nem down before they can recover.

Well, I had to sweat for a little bit but guess what?

Time Mage got the final blow, kill and win!!

Here is the link to the battle replay I seriously love this card. Pretty low mana, not a great life pool but magic and high speed. If you can pair it with other e.g. high-speed cards it works... magic!

And with that - I hope you'll have a fabulous rest of your day!

Cheers,
